odd question

Is it possible to disable the on-board audio without disabling the game/MIDI port?

Application: I want to be able to use an external MIDI synth but I don't want to use the on-board audio. I am eyeing an M-Audio Revolution for a sound card but I have a cm-32l for legacy game support.

I am pretty sure you can have the onboard audio enabled and still use a soundcard... BTW, my friend (crazy audiophile) has the M-Audio Revolution sound card.... says its really nice

If I left the on-board audio on would I have enough IRQs or whatever to support 5 PCI cards?

I don't THINK so.. if you don't get an answer by tommorow I will ask my friend if he had to disable his onboard sound...

Today several units can be used of the same IRQ, however I'm not sure if there is some limitaions here... My SB live and a PCTV card are sharing IRQ 16... Works flawless...

An important question I forgot to ask-because I was assuming it would work. Does the on-board audio allow the MIDI port to be selected as the MIDI output device in the Windows multimedia control panel? I was just assuming that it would. That's how it works with a separate sound card.
