Regarding Half.Life.2.Pre.Gold-ANON:
This is fake, and I will never give out info about my releases
in public.
- Anonymous leaker aka. Osama bin Leaker

poor guy, running out of ideas now

Code was leaked, it's over and done with. What Valve needs to do now is take a "no comment" approach to the whole thing. Get all their legal ducks in a row as far as the licensed engines go, and get back to work on the game. Now they'll probably have to change some of the multiplayer aspects of the game as well as rework the Steam interaction. But that's all well and good. As long as when the game is finally released it's done and not "half baked", I'll buy it. Whether that's December 2003 or July 2004.

So what is the big deal?

Valve lied about only 30% of the code being stolen?

Is that it?

Its their business, I'd say they have a right to keep any information they want confidential. Just because a net nerd is ****ed off at them doesn't change that.

If people feel wronged by Valve for some reason, the logical thing to do would be DON'T buy their products.

What this guy has doesn't prove a thing anyway, its not like some felonious anon says Valve has no more code and that means its true.

Either I'm missing something or people on the net are really gullible.

I don't believe every word my mother says, why would I believe what this joker says. I don't believe everything Valves says either, but like I said its their business, they don't have to tell you, me or anyone else what happened and if they lied to fans and it bothers you, don't buy the game.

Damn you can read my mind :p

And on a side note : Valve has NO obligation to tell us anything, and never has! They didnt have to go to E3...they didnt have to release ANYTHING. A date is a date and they can break it if they want to or not whether or not the game is finished or not! ITS THERE CHOICE AND THERE RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT BECOMES OF IT!

Thanks

read my long post again

I'm kinda missing the point of why all of this is a big deal. People are acting like Valve has robbed them of some type of life liberty. Last I checked, companies (especially companies with one market i.e. Valve) do not try to tick off their target market. The game was delayed for a real reason. Gabe did not wake up on a monday, and go through his "ways to upset the gaming community list". The game was delayed for a legitimate reason, possibly unfinished business, optimizations, or more profitable sales during the holiday season.

Someone who praises the events of the past week needs to sersiouly re-evaluate their outlook on life.

I would like to start by saying that i always had big respect for Vavle and Blizzard, the guys there are simply amazing.

Crack had a very good point, if i am running a buisness to me the most important thing (apart from buisness partners and others) would be none other than my target customers, and getting in their books is the last thing in the world i would like to do

If HL2 was delayed there WAS a logical reason behind it, hey i rather belive Gabe's word that "it was not ready" (he didnt said but thats the reason why any game would be postponed) than word of a anon hacker (who doesnt have guts to even take his name, you know why? coz he knows he have done something illegal .. last i checked anything illegal is bad so blah end of topic)

To this anon person the game might be ready for going gold but in Gabe's point of view it was not ready and hell i am believing Gabe all the way here

Slip sliding away!

Amazon's pushed the availibilty date back to April 2004! Sure nobody wants to start a pool? So much for the flashing lights and action packed Christmas morn! :bang head

The point I was making about lying to the public is that Valve knew that the game wasn't going to be ready by 9/30 a long time ago. They didn't just wake up 3 days before the release date and look at their maybe 60% done game and say "Well crap, maybe it won't get done in time". Announcing delays right before the game is scheduled for release is a sucker punch. Add on this whole fiasco and the game magically has been delayed until April 2004? Are you kidding me? You've been working on this for 5 freaking years and couldn't meet a deadline for a game? This isn't an entirely product endeavor you are attempting it's a FPS, what you guys do for a living.

I feel like Valve is crying wolf. They continue to set dates for the game to be released and then they back track on those and postpone the release again. Yeah their source code was jacked by some dude. That doesn't mean that the game must be delayed for 7 more months. Get back to work, get a good product out, fire you network admin and security idiots, hire qualified individuals, and make some cash.

Maybe I'm just irritated by the fact that Half Life 2 is delayed once again.

From what I've seen about the leaked version of HL2 is that there was a statement at the bottom of an information file. Basiclly it said there was no reason to keep this from the public now since the source code was leaked.

Now im sorry but yes the original source code was stolen (a great amount of it) and because the person or persons decided to release it, this other person that had access to the beta decided to post it because he has a beef with the company delaying the game and figured that the public should see whats completed.

Either way I think its pathetic what people do to get there hands on a product. I've seen the source and the beta plastered all over the IRC channels and in great amounts. It hit the web and its wildfire now. Only way to cure it is to release the final product when its finish the way that Valve wants it.

Also what was said earlier its Valves choice to decide how they want the information controlled. Thats true, I mean they could of kept this under wraps til it went gold, but they decided to give the community what we wanted, a nice big conformation that it was true that HL2 was coming.

Either way I'm ****ed that the games not coming out for another 6 months :( but with if I still play the original and have a blast with it, I'd rather have a complete product that can last years like the first instead of a dud.

i agree
now that it is out the beta and the source code has been stolen, that to me will make me work evenharder to get the final product out asap.

Why don't we all quit crying about it! I haven't heard anybody b!+ch so much since I told my wife she couldn't have that new Coach purse!

Valve doesn't have to answer to us about why THEIR game is being delayed. We aren't the boss here. Game design is an art; and as an artist, Gabe Newell wasn't 100% ready, wether it was technically finished or not, he wasn't happy with it. Any artist would understand, that if you're work isn't perfect (in your eyes), then you don't feel ready to let the world see it.

I agree, disappoinment aside, I'd rather see them take extra and turn out a quality product that does have the longevity of the original, although, the bar has been set pretty high. I'd like to see more games that don't have patch v1.01 released BEFORE the game! There have been some good games released lately after an extremely dry summer. Freedom Fighters should arrive UPS this evening (rural area, thank god for DSL) and I have enjoyed the demo so looking forward to full game action. JK Academy also has been enjoyable. We have no choice but to wait for HL2......and Doom2.....and.....:eh?:

Give me a break man. I am not to sure if you have seen some beta screen shots but if you think its only 60% would they humanly be able to complete 40% more of a game that has taken 5 years to get to 60%.......? And if the game didnt go gold by at least 9/15/03 it would definetly not be coming out on Setp. 30.....anyone with a single ouch of logic could come to that conclusion. So was anyone who really tracked to development of HL2 (anyone else would not be so crushed by a delay) surprised by the delay? NO.

You've been working on this for 5 freaking years and couldn't meet a deadline for a game? This isn't an entirely product endeavor you are attempting it's a FPS, what you guys do for a living.

So i suppose if you had it your way you would steal the games guts, black-mail the company, (which could possibly put them out of business) then say its total BS that they delay the release big time. Well, I hope all you people are happy.......you will have to wait 6 more months now instead of 2. Hurray!!!! *makes farting noise and points thumb down*

PS- I am glad that so many people share my viewpoint!! :D There is still some light at the end of the road!!!! w00t!!! :p
