i dunno bout EB's website but their employees are the most full of s**tppl ever when it comes to relsease dates they make em up off the top of theor head usually...

VU said the game was delayed till after sept 30 back in July, but VALVe didnt confirm it till just now and its probably the same now VU says april and come end of march VALVe will state the obvious.

Give me a break man. I am not to sure if you have seen some beta screen shots but if you think its only 60% would they humanly be able to complete 40% more of a game that has taken 5 years to get to 60%.......? And if the game didnt go gold by at least 9/15/03 it would definetly not be coming out on Setp. 30.....anyone with a single ouch of logic could come to that conclusion. So was anyone who really tracked to development of HL2 (anyone else would not be so crushed by a delay) surprised by the delay? NO.
Valve has actually only been working on the game itself for less than a year. I beleive gabe said they started around early November of '02. For the 4+ years before that they have been coding the Source engine from scratch. That is what has taken them so long with the game. Creating a new game engine from the ground up is no easy task.

Sorry for dual post but I thought this my give some hope.

http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/235059.asp

They say 11/27/03 and ebgames is usually dead on with most release dates.

I thought that the publisher of HL2 said the delay was not confirmed....has it been confirmed or may it be "pending"?

I heard the same thing from one of my buddies. I'm more inclined to believe Valive than Vivendi though.

My guess is that they're going to modify the code in minimal fashion, but just enough to render the stolen code ineffective. That could explain a minor delay.

Valve wont confirm the delay at all and the Vivendi guy who said April 2004 was basically talking out of his butt. Vivendi wont even officially say its delayed. I will wait till Gabe and Co. say its going to be delayed till then otherwise i expect a holiday release.

Amazon's ususally pretty good at their estimated ship dates. I followed numerous games through thier site and they're usually pretty much on the ball. They get to much grief if the games don't ship when projected. I imagine their volume of sales greatly exceeds ebGames. However, I would really like to find a copy of HL2 in my stocking this Christmas.

i just hope they get it out soon, this pre-gold is runnning amuk and altogther too many ppl are downloading it, probably a sub-par copy of it. which is runing HL2's expectations...

Regardless of how many downloads it's currently gettting, I'm still expecting it to sell like the hot caca!

I'll believe a release date when Valve officially states a release date. I'm though listening to heresay, net rumors, and Vivendi.

Big red you should be telling that to all the people that are flipping out due to a small (back on sept 30th) delay. Yes, creating a game from the ground up is extremely hard. So why is it so difficult for people to calm down and let valve work their magic without calling them dirty liers every step of the way?? But that still does not change the fact that the game was more than 60% done on sept 30.

PS-I have my fingers crossed for an x-mas launch!!! :D If that were to happen I would grab like 50 lunchables and lock myself into my computer room for the 2 week break :)

In sept only the source code was stolen. The beta that is floating around was leaked back in may/june so of that date it was only 60% done, it would have been about 80-90% done in sept.

i cant see why anyone would want to steal the source code for that game. if u truely like the game so much, show it some respect and dont play it till its completed the way its ment to be.

Big Red you sure about that? I was under the impression that the beta leak that anon stole was the product as of right now. And thats why its been delayed for another 4 months to April.

I only read this morning that part of the source code had been stolen & the game release will hopefully be some time April 2004!

What more can you really say except "It will be done when it`s done"

"LOL"

Acko

the source code being stolen has nothing to do with the game being delayed, they just werent going to be done with it by or anywhere near sept 30. and btw anon isnt a release group or anything it just means anonymous, since i see people talking about anon as if its a person(s)

are you sure about that Big Red?? any links to authenticate that since i find it very hard that a leaked beta took so much time to get distributed mostly the moment something is leaked within 24 hours its all over the usenet, irc and other places

Yea BR, everyone would have known by now that a HL2 beta is out if it had been leaked in may/june....

I find it hard to believe that people magically started to discover and want the BETA as soon as the sourse code was stolen.

Again as I said before though, If you think that the BETA floating around is only 60% you havent seen many betas..\

As a side note....does anyone really like these leaked betas and crap? All I remember is that leaked doom3 alpha. It scared the crap outta me. The zombies acted all weird and buggy, and some didnt even attack, but stare at you. I would be too scared to play a HL2 beta if its like the D3 alpha. All those odd-ball mobs just standing there. Weird things popping up....odd sounds. Scares me just thinking about if :)

i haven't seen the code or the beta so can't comment on how it looks but i do wish it looks CRAP .. i have seen couple of screen shots some are good some are bad, but screenies don't do enough justice to how good a game might look on screen

i have seen doom3 leaked alpha and year it was scary.
