You know the deal, you have the latest direct x version, yet the installer tells you that you need 9.0c, even after you've installed it...

Well this time, its a bit different...

WTF???

I know of the "fix" where you either run autorun in w2k compatibility mode, or change the \autorun\autorun.cfg directx value to "0", but this time, neither of them work! There must be SOME people on here that have managed to install the game, any takers for a lil' help?

You should check Microsoft's web site. There are monthly updates in the form of DirectX 9.0c August.. You may need the new version then just the original 9.0c version.

Solved. Just change "0" to "8". However, new problem - every time the game goes to play the intro movies, I'm kicked back to the desktop without it crashing. Click the icon in the taskbar - the intro will display for a fraction of a second, and its back to the desktop again.

Hi,

Can you plz tell me how you managed to solved the DirectX problem while installing NFS Carbon.

I had same problem with the Demo but I changed comp. to Win98 and it worked then. But I cant change to 98 for the full game-"this software was not meant for ....". I installed all the DX updates from the DVD, changed compatibility(to every option I could), copied files on HDD and changed autorun.cfg to DX.....=8.0,9.0c,9.0b,0 ; no use.

My DVD is ok, no prob with it, since I managed to install it successfully on my friend's PC without changing anything!! He has same DX as mine-9.0c, but slower PC. I've a 3.0 Intel, 6600GT with XP-SP2 running (updated to every corner) .

In your post, you've mentioned that you changed something in the autorun.cfg file. Plz inform how to do that, do i need to copy everything from DVD onto my HDD?

Take Care & plz do reply,
Santanu
