I have CS, and I cannot seem to get more then 72 FPS! Its almost like it wont go any higher. I've tried to understand the vsync thing, and using powerstrip it got me from 60 to 72, but my GF3 I believe can go much higher, so anyone out there with some advice. Also can I disable vsync and overclock the card w/o powerstrip, and/or there any better utilities of this kind

Thanks a lot fellows

Try max_fps 100 (100 is max in CS) in the console. and you already disabled Vsync. also, Higher FPS than that aren't very noticable.

HAHAHA I must say, some people whine for nothing. Your eye cant differentiate between anything above 30FPS, so whats the big deal??? I am frustrated with my FPS in CS but I know why its bad, I DLed some awesome models (about a meg each) and they are BRUTAL on my 8500 (at max res).

Thats not exactly nice of you... He has every right to know how many frames per seconds he's getting in Counter Strike.

Dale,

I have the same problem with the fps in CS not going above 60. I set the fps to above 100 but it doesn't move. Could you give me some tips on how you got it to go higher?

By the way, believe me, i notice when im getting 120fps instead of 30fps...

Ditto Exile.

You two may be one of the few that can notice a difference above 30 FPS, But you definately CANNOT tell the difference between 75 and 120 FPS. I say 75 FPS as the minimum, as a measure of above average optical reaction time. I personally can see the difference up until about 40-48 FPS, past that, it means nothing for me, it all looks the same. If you can tell the difference past 60+, hats off to you, because thats physically impossible, unless you're an alien. If you really want to test the theory, I'll put up a webpage to test to see if you can tell the difference. Odds are, you won't be able to tell the difference past 60 FPS (Max).

Im not saying i can. All im saying is, in a game, its noticable when you go from 30fps to at least double (60fps). I probably couldnt tell the difference in a movie but in a game its different. The gameplay is much smoother, your reaction time seems to improve. I dont know, maybe its just me ;)

Ok, maybe i should clarify my point. I should have said, you can FEEL the difference between 30fps and 120fps. I just tried something with Quake3Arena. I put my max fps to 30 and played a skirmish on Q3DM1. Then i put my max fps to 60 and played again. I have to say, i did SEE and FEEL a difference. If some of you have Quake3Arena, try it and see if you can tell between the two.

Just trying to prove my point

The reason you may be able to tell the difference from 30 and higher FPS is due to the buffering effect of the higher FPS has, its not that you can tell between 30 and 60, its that it stays above 30 more of the time, so looks better.

The human eye can't differentiate between anything above 30 FPS.
The only reason I am ****ed that I am only getting 60 FPS is the models I have cut my frames down to below 30, and then my M4A1 Looks like its in burst mode and my jumping looks like I am running up stairs.
High FPS is only good for keeping FPS up in high action.
