Which is the best block for Socket462 CPUs:
A) DangerDen Maze2
B) Gemini normalflow/highflow
C) Spir@l

Using a normal pump, around 200gph. Does anyone know if Spir@l blocks can still be bought? They seem the best cuz of how big the block is.
 
I think Hoots Review on the Front page proved that size doesn't matter ;)


IF I had a socket 462 my personal decision would be to get a Gemini, as it has a fantasic retention mechanism and its a great performer....I use a Maze2 478 because my choices are limited.

yes they would also need to be tested @ 1/2 fittings to really show the mazes true preformence.....

I have now seen two reviews where the maze 2 outperforms the spral by fix. I have seen one review that the Gemini kills the maze 2 by 4c. So, judgeing by the reviews the Gem is the way to go.

Agree with your thinking but I am sure he did do it correctly and attempted it several times as a result of the readings. I too have had and do have a maze2. I have found that in order for me to get optimum temps I must remove the springs and snug the nuts by hand. I redo them again in a week or so. I do agree with the thinking but Hoot could not justifiably change the mounting of the sink for the testing. He followed the mfg directions.
 
Yup, following mfg directions is a must. In order to make the tests more fair, the parts being tested must adhere to the manner in which they are to be installed and used, cause thats what most people will do when they get theirs, follow the directions.

You should start another thread about this or search through old threads. Many people here have Eheim pumps, but there are very few, if any, places where you'll find them for much less than dangerden. I got mine here. They're high-quality pumps, but you have to pay for that quality.

I got the Eheim 1250. It looks and feels solid, but I haven't been able to get the waterblock I want yet, so it's just looking pretty for now.

It seems too difficult to get the force right on the Maze2
so the block is "square" with the die. I suspect that
a shim could increase the spanning distance out to
the edge of the CPU and thus square the WB to the die
when the pressure is applied. A shim whould make it
a whole lot easier the get the correct performance out
of the Maze2.

Someone want to try this?
 
In mounting either a HSF or WB I prefer this method. Use aluminum standoff studs/nuts mounted through the motherboard and secured with nylon washers on either side. Then use a nylon nut to secure the standoffs. Now use four equal length machine screws and springs of equal pressure. Place a spring over each screw with a nylon washer at each end of the spring and place each screw/spring through the WB mounting holes. If needed you can use small nylon washers under the bolt head to adjust the pressure on the water block. Now tighten each screw 1/4 turn until the screws bottoms out in the standoff. By using this method you take the guesswork out getting equal pressure. With the mounting of the Maze 2 you still have to account for the pressure with nuts leading to possible tipping either side of the block and not getting equal pressure on all four corners. When I mount my Gemini Water Block I will use springs as well. I believe Hoot mentioned that AMD recommends no more than 18lbs of pressure on the chip.

I use the double nut at the mobo as well and this allows one to remove the water block without removing the motherboard. Good infi Dodgeviper.
