I wish to upgrade from my ASUS CUSL2-C Intel board w/ 700Cele to either a Athlon 1.4 266FSB or an Athlon XP1600. I was thinking of an Abit KT-7A for the Athlon and an MSI K7T Turbo2 for the XP. I wish to stay with SDRAM compatible boards , are these good choices. What about compatible boards from ASUS ,FIC,EPOX or TYAN???? Both chips are below $90 on pricewatch and I wish to stay in the $100-150 area for the board if possible. Thanks for any info.....

Try an Epox 8KHA+ - it will work with both Tbirds and XPs. decently priced and an excellent OCer.

If I'm not mistaken, the 8KHA+ is a DDR board.

Whoops

Try the ECS K7S5A - supports SDR and DDR RAM, Tbirds and XPs. And dead cheap as well ;)

My friend has an XP1500+ on an SDR board - a Chaintech 7AJA2/100 I think. Uses SDR RAM and supports AThlon XPs.

boards

Shuttle makes a board that has 2 sdram dimms and 2 ddr dimms as well. I think its the AK32, but not sure. And I haven't heard much about it. You should get a cheap DDR board (like maybe an AK31 r3.1 or 8KHA+) and one stick of 256MB crucial PC2100 DDR, or maybe Kingmax PC2700. And just sell your sdram. Unless you really need a lot of ram. The DDR would really alleviate the memory bottleneck you'd have with sdram and a newer AMD cpu.
