You'll be screaming through those WU's now! Let us all know how that quad core does for ppd, please!

Great practical joke idea: play an explosion wav file, just when a new SMP folder is starting his first WU, and print a "Caution: You have chosen to blow up your Motherboard Y/N? Yes" message on the monitor. :)

Glad to help out.

One last question before i turn in does emiii work on the smp client? or was that the gpu client that it didn't work with?

Ok two questions how to point emiii if it monitors from winderz(lappy) to linux box?

I swear thats the last one. Tomorrow afternoon.

Sure, sure! Last question my foot!

No good answers here. I'll check on FAH forums. Maybe some others have a good set up for monitoring the SMP folding progress, and can explain it VERY SIMPLY. :)

Typical linux answers still fly by me, several meters over my head.

damn, you should get around 2300-2800ppd with a 3m 15s tpf with the current WUs. /drools

You wouldn't find it. I left team 32 after being told to STFU by some young punk, on T32, and nobody said anything about it.

That doesn't work with me.

What???? This is the first I've heard of this, I think I can speak for "most" of the folders out here on Team 32 (notice I said MOST). Unfortunately and hopefully, it was just a misunderstanding. (sometimes this "smack" is hard to understand, I know it took me a while to understand it) I think a lot of people, me included, come to this forum to find out information regarding problems with folding. The fact I don't have this same problem doesn't mean I don't want to learn the cure for it. The "bottom line" is if you don't like what you read, don't read it. D'oh (unless of course you're a prisoner of some sadistic cult) Please, keep up the great guides, I thought it was informative. :)

Anyway that's my uninflated 2 cents worth. (probably 2 1/2 cents now)

EMIII does not work.

First off EMIII is a windows program. So you'll have to use wine (www.winehq.com) to run it. I haven't messed with it a lot but there seems to be some issue. I'm not sure if it works now, I need to try it since a new version of wine was just released a few weeks ago.

I've got a great guide that I saved at home. I'll post it up when I get home. Its a guide on setting up wine.

I remember that. I haven't seen him around the folding section lately, but he posts every now and then in other sections. What if we could work out an apology, would you come back then? :santa:

ditto! I don't know what was wrong or what had happened, but surely would do anything to have you back to the team!! (well, it's good to see you still stop by this forum and folding!! :) )

That's disturbing, very uncharacteristic of "folding" types. Sorry to hear that you experienced such un-called for behavior.

I searched the forums but could not pn down the thread/post where this occurred.

Perhaps the post was edited?

sweet good to know .

Iknew there was something that i needed to make it work.

Blew threw 2 wu's already. would be more but had a glitch checked it this morning before heading to work and i had a black screen. ?????
restarted checked fahlog and it had restarted?? did i set this up as a service? anyway i forgot to turn off the screen saver and also i found that i had extracted the fah to the /folding file also. which was interfering with the other client in /FAH,I think.(scratch head) anyway deleted all that other mess in /folding and made sure /FAH was ok.

Checked when i got home and all fine and dandy.

So i lost about 4-5 hrs of folding.:(

To setup up FAH as a service in linux its not as easy as in windows. In the folding wiki there is a entry on how to setup fah as a service in linux.

I'm trying to find the guide I folded for setting up wine, but as it seems I can't get EMIII to work anyway it probably doesn't matter.

No, Hack30, it's running just as a program, in a terminal window. If you ever want to stop it, be sure to use Ctrl + C, or it's linux equivalent. (which I believe is killall fah5, but not positive).

I should defer to Shelnutt2 or somebody with more expertise on Linux to help you if you want a service install for fah5.

Your rig reminds me of a great NFL moment, several years back. Earl Campbell was pitched the ball, and had a hole in the defensive line of the Redskins a mile wide.

And Campbell is taking it up the sideline for all he's worth - everybody could see it was an obvious touchdown - all the Redskin defenders were now scattered behind him.

Suddenly, from out of == NOWHERE ==, a defensive back named Green (who at that time was one of the fastest men in the NFL), caught up with Campbell, and overran him so fast, he pitched EC to the ground ON HIS HEAD! :)

Shaking off his cobwebs from the force of the hit, EC went back to the Cowboy's huddle with a sizable divot firmly stuck in his helmet. Green had covered an enormous amount of the field, coming over from the diagonal to overtake EC.

Even watching it on replay, it was unbelievable!

That's how your ppd is going to seem to those just ahead of you, Hack30! Have fun!

I only ask because when I tried to restart it after the restart the comp, the terminal would say "bad command" or "no file found" but I did check the log in the /FAH and it did restart. ??? funny??

Hopefully I won't have to kill the client(crosses fingers). I don't think i'll install it as a service just yet. Still to noobish with linux. I'll want to play around still.

While I'm not a big sports fan I do believe i've seen the sports footage of said event. Most notably the large clump of grass and dirt hanging from his face gaurd.

As far as PPD, emiii calculator puts PPD at 2600.856 for a 587 point WU. I'll have to check tpf on other WU's The quad is clocked to 3 Ghz. Stock everything. 10x multiplier x 300fsb

Yes, it was edited - but I read it BEFORE the edits, and the STFU was not even in initials.

Which shouldn't have bothered me, but I knew dayumm well the Window's folding client was NOT an SMP program. Now that we actually have an SMP folding client, that's been answered, for sure.

To make a long story short, I read the unedited version, and waited for a mod or others to put things right. I was a fairly new member of T32, so I didn't want to start a cussin' match. The" put right", never happened.

What I didn't know was most of the team had never even SEEN the unedited version, since "the kid" edited his own vulgar post, and then the mod edited it some more.

Anyway, after a few days of believing everyone had seen the insulting post, I posted up a farewell. Nobody was concerned.

I waited and thought about folding solo again (when men were men and WU's were ONE WHOLE POINT) :) but really enjoyed the team forums much more than the FAH forums. Checked out Team Abit (they're infected with something that makes them howl! ) :), and 2CPU (great guys but it's pretty QUIET. It seemed to shout QUIET.) Went to EOC's team forum - great guys but they NEED some muscle for their folding! Look at their team top 20 if you're ready for a shock. Wound up with MaxPC.

I'm not hunting for an apology. Truth is, I took the bit and stuck it in my teeth, and ran with it quite headstrong in that thread. Since I lost my Dad after two rounds with Cancer, and my best friend to myostatic leukemia, I've had some melancholy moments a'hanging 'round.

Thanks for the kind words, sorry to interrupt Hack30's thread.

I thought it would be 2.67 GHz, like the stock E6700's dual core's. Sweet!

When you get the error bad command or no file found, whatever, it's usually because you're in the wrong directory at that time.

Terminal window always opens in the user's directory. To change to the folding directory and the FAH sub directory just enter:

cd ~/folding/FAH
and hit enter.

Yes, that's a wavy tilde up there before the slash.

I've never seen the FAH SMP client start up by itself like that - but my rigs are stock right now, and haven't crashed (knock on head). :)

That was a great run down by Green! Deion Sanders was maybe as fast in his days, but he couldn't hit like Green did. Sensational!
