I'm buying today.

We are moving to a DSL serviced area - so bye bye cable modem.

I want a wireless setup for my 4 pc's with the option to hookup more!

Simple question, what do I need? A router? A switch? PCI cards? Please help me out! What is wireless G? B? It's too confusing!

You should specify how far each of your computers would be from the DSL modem point.

if they are relatively close to the DSL modem, you might want to hardwire the desktops, and for computers that are much further away, you should get the systems wireless cards.

I would suggest something either by Linksys or D-Link based on the 802.11 G standard, as it's faster.

if you have a router already, just purchase an Access Point (AP) and connect that via Ethernet to your Router (if it has a hub/switch built-in).

I would get wireless for my home, but as all 3 of my PCs are within 30 feet of the Cable Modem (Adjacent Rooms) running Ethernet was no biggie.

If you hardwire some of your computers, you'll save money on the cost of wireless cards, since most will run you $70-100 (For the "G" standard.)

I've done network installs for some of my friends, and if you're having to run cable across the house, by crawling thru 'crawlspaces' under the house, it's definately easier to persuade your customer to get wireless lol....

yes, we want all wireless. No wires, non, zip, zilch, zero, nada.

Two computers are downstairs with, and two upstairs. I would say that all the machines are within 60ft of each other.

Connect your broadband connection to a router with a built in hardware firewall.

If you want wireless, then get a wireless router and wireless cards for the pc's.

Just be sure to activate the security on the router, and change the password.
