old rusty heater core

I got a heater core from a junkyard-type place for $10. At first it was leaking, and I ran some stop leak stuff through it, but now when I run water through it, I get little tiny specks of metal from the rusting insides.
My question is, will these little specks kill my pump. Is there some solvent or something that Ican run through my core to clean it up, and get rid of these?

u dont want that running through ur system, if it dont kill the pump it could clog the block or other things. i dont think that heater core has any life left in it, i dont think there is any way to get rid of the rust

I'd just get rid of that thing and get a new one. This heatercore is only 17.99 at autozone. 1987 ford escort w/air

Maybe try some CLR (Calcium Lime Rust) thats always advertised on tv. Ive never used it myself though.
