Sorry to bring up an old subject. I've read through lots of threads regarding lapping the IHS on P4's as far back as 5 or 6 months. I understand lapping as I did it on my old P3 550E and Alpha heatsink.

My concern with lapping the P4 is that vent hole on the IHS. Should that hole be plugged before lapping? If so, what's the best method? In all those threads I read, not one thing was mentioned about that hole during lapping.

Thanks.

I did dry sanding with 1000-2000 grit wet-or-dry on my P3 tualatin proc, which has the hole in the IHS just like the P4. I'm sure the hole is supposed to be sealed from moisture but I didn't want to take any chances.

I plugged the hole just in case. I knew metal dust was gonna get inside, so I figured it wouldn't hurt.
