You need the adapter to put between the fan's molex and power output on the controller.

If you have a pin removal tool and wire strippers and maybe some electrical tape, instead of buying the adapter(s) you could just move the power lines (12V and ground, yellow and black) from the molex into the RPM line from the fan, since it already has the 3-pin connector. The yellow 12V molex wire should go where you see the red wire on the 3-pin cable, and the black with the black.

do you prefer

Rheosmart

or

Rheobus-Extreme

i see the come with a bag of cords

i beleive the 4 pin connecter on the FAN is for power, and it has a 3 pin connector for rpm detection? on the vantec tornado so what exactly would that adapter do for me?

once again thank you so much for all of your help!!:D

I'd go with the rheobus extreme only as I haven't used the rheosmart so I can't comment on it being a good unit or not.

I think the two adapters on the top left will work with your fans so you wouldn't need the other adapters. The adapters included would connect the 4-pin power molex for the fan to the 3-pin output on the controller.

The other yellow cable with the 3-pin connector from the fans can be connected to the motherboard for RPM monitoring, or just not used, your call.

ok placing order now... i really need to pry off my cpu heatsink and put some better new thermal paste on it but i hate taking those things off... worth it or not?? paste on it now is what it came with 2 years ago..

It might be worth doing given that it's two years out, especially if it was stock TIM or something.

Use high-% rubbing alcohol and paper towels to clean it off, then swap in some new paste.

the cpu fan is so huge on this thing and my hands are so big its gonna be a challenge to take it off im thinking... which paste should i go with? arctic silver 5? also should i go ahead and change the paste on my geforce gtx-260 since that is just as old?

The MX-4 that pettey suggested is the way to go, although you can use AS5 on your CPU if that's what you already have.

Don't use AS5 on a videocard though as it's conductive and GPU's have exposed resistors/caps. You'd want to use something non-capacitive/non-conductive like AC Ceramique or MX-4. Radioshack will carry AS5 and Ceramique paste but they won't have any of the MX-3/4 pastes.

If you do replace GPU TIM, again, use non-capacitive/non-conductive paste, and be careful to replace the thermal pads for the VRM's and RAM in the same place as it is stock. There's usually a gap between the cooler and the chips, so TIM won't fill it, you'd need to use the pads. You should see a drop in temps by replacing the stock paste as the stuff they put on cards is usually kinda terrible.

Edit: Also thank you petteyg - I'd been meaning to pick up some MX-4 and Amazon looks to be the ticket.
