I asked an aquarium dealer, and found out that MaxiJet has a 5/8" inlet and 1/2" outlet. The heater core I'm getting also has one 5/8" fitting. Would it matter if I just connected that to the inlet of the pump with a length of 5/8" hose while using 1/2" hose on the rest?

Thanks.
Ok, another question. I bought some 1/2" reinforced PVC hose earlier at my local hardware store. I measured the outer diameter to be around 3/4", think it would be safe to push this inside a piece of 3/4" hose?

well there is one problem with that... i have a maxijet 1200 and the outle isnt 1/2 its 3/8, sorry dude,

but im sure you possibly could put some 1/2in tubing on it and clamp it good...

and one other thing,

these pumps are extremely nice and very good!!! yet small! very nice buy....i got mine for 25shipped!

Since both my pump outlet and radiator had 5/8" connections, I decieded to make my block with 5/8 barbs also and use that size for the whole system. The problem is that the 5/8 hose is so thick, that it is flattened when it is on the rolls at the hardware store. So most of my system has very narrow water path, except for the parts close to the pump outlet where the water pressure has eventually rounded the tube back out.

you got any pics of your system?

and what pump are you using?

I'm using a Rio 1100. Here's a pic of my system. There were a few things that didn't turn out the way I thought. The electrical box was supposed to fit inside, but 6x6 apparently refers to the inner dimensions of the box, because I measured that I had easily 6x6" of free space. The radiator is a 6x8" heater core and is mounted on the other side of the box. Ok, mounted is too strong of a word. It is barely tied in place with some copper wire. I'll do a better job of mounting it when my 120mm fans arrive this week.
