Right now Shop Onkyo has 10% off all refurbished items for members.

The member price for the HT-S590 5.1 channel Home Theater in a Box is $159.00, which is a good deal in of itself.

Subtract the 10% off and you have $143.10.

The deal can become even sweeter if you have Onkyo Points. I believe Shop Onkyo gives you 10 points for creating an account. Each point is equal to a dollar so your total comes to $133.10

The shipping is free and there is no tax in most states.

Here's the link to Shop Onkyo.

Here's the direct link to the HT-S590.

Excellent price. The receiver is top notch but the speakers are lacking but for this price on an Onkyo, its amazing. I have the 7.1 version and love it.

" * Refurbished products do not include batteries, cables or labels"

Be sure to get some speaker wire (16 gauge ought to do).

I want to say THANKS! I've been in the market for a decent HT in a box to connect to the home theater PC. The Sony system we have is decent but isn't true 5.1 surround (it's 10 years old! ). I couldn't find anything for less than $200 that was worth upgrading the odler Sony system until today. This came to $133.10 shipped.

I hope they honor the price.

they will :D
many have reported recieving all the cables/accesorries with em too!

Just reporting back that this is a very nice system for $130 shipped. Came with all documentation, remote, and speaker cables. No evidence of prior use. Sound quality is there, but the satellites are a bit too small for full dynamic range. Listening to NIN Downard Spiral DVD Audio and it sounds god, bass if tight, but the guitars lack some crunch (missing/struggling mid range frequencies).

The shipping was super fast because it came from New Jersey (I'm in upstate New York).

Overall I'm very pleased with the decision to splurge on this.

Pinky will be the reference point here as he actually owns this particular system, but I would like to warn everyone that Onkyo isn't what it used to be vis a vis product quality.

I bough and HT-R500 system, big speakers and sub and 100wpc 5.1 amp.

Speakers and sub were pretty good... but the amp was atrocious!

To start off with, that model of amplifier has a problem with LFE, whereby the sub was not always on. It would BLAST with bass when the level was high, as in an explosion in a movie or something, but for every other time, it went into standby mode. Not the sub's fault, as others have reported identical behavior.

Also, my particular amp has problems with the channels.... ie channel outputs in the back of the unit don't correspond to reality (per lucas THX test). Also, one of the channels is completely dead. Worst of all, the channel outputs change depending on the selected input. So for DVD, "front left" will actually output the rear right channel, while for Aux1, it'll output the center channel.

The price is low enough to not care if you get a dud, but do your research if money's tight. Don't buy into brand "reputation" as it is often inaccurate.

AMAZING deal. Glad you could get one Pinky.

Just so you know, get a nice set of new speakers and it will sound absolutely amazing! The reciever you got in the package alone is $120 on their site refurbed. I got a step up to the 7.1 version of your reciever. You won't be dissapointed! Have fun!

got my stuff a tad back, shipping only took two day!
today i finally have time to clean my roomand set these puppies up!
came i a HUMONGO box lol

just got mine i think something is wrong with the amp, the front right speaker plays noise even when the sound is all the way off, I have replaced the cable and switched speakers but anytime its in a digital mode it does this not when in stereo but like surround it does this

That is an interesting find because that unit is available at Onkyo's site for the same price, after the Onkyo points and the 10% refurb discount...the Fry's unit, on the other hand does not indicate refurb anywhere that I could see. Shipping calculated out to be $15 for me so it would cost someone approximately $15 to go new, versus refurb. If I was buying that unit I would have to go new for such a small difference.

I ended up buying the TX-SR503, which is 7.1 (receiver only). It cost the same as the 5.1 system in this thread, but has more connectivity features according to the good people at Onkyo.

I will set it up over the Holidays, using the Jensen speakers (I got two sets so I have enough speakers) from the other Cyber Deals thread and see how that works.

dont forget,it includes speakers on my deal
not on that one

No, I didn't forget. I actually had them change my order from the set that you found to the receiver only because I was convinced by the support person that it (the "503") was a better overall receiver than the one in the complete system and I already had 2 sets of those Jensen coming.

Honestly, I don't know enough to know whether or not the stand alone receiver is better or not than the one that comes with the speakers...just went on their recommendation. I'm sure that the HT-S590 is a better value, especially if you don't already have speakers.

In the end, if the Jensen speakers don't cut it, I'll look for something else.

I'm a happy owner since December. Not the greatest quality but for the price this is a "must" for anyone in need of a cheap upgrade or budget home theater setup. Tons of volume and solid bass, though some of the lower-mids don't come through clearly (due to poor crossover selection between sub and satellites which could be solved with some careful EQ'ing).
