Hi all! I'm a newbie when it comes to overclocking. As of right now, my 2600k can only get a stable 4.6, anything past that crashes in less then 5 minutes of Prime95 testing.

Here's what I use to get 4.6.
BCLK - 100
vcore - 1.35
VCCSA - .90000
VCCIO - 1.00000
DRAM - 1.5

This is perfectly stable after 24 hours of Prime95 testing. However, anything over this just doesn't seem doable with my chip. Did I just get a bad batch or am I doing something wrong?

HAF X Blue Edition
Asus P8Z68 DELUXE/GEN3
Core i7-2600k
Corsair H100 Push/Pull
Corsair Vengeance 16gb
PNY Superclocked GTX 460s in SLI
Corsair 750tx

Probably just where it's going to ramp up the voltage requirement significantly. You'll need stronger LLC on, turn off spread spectrum make sure RAM is at the correct timings. I've found despite dogma that 1.1VCCSA/IO helps things a bit. You may need to go as high as 1.38 just to hit 4.7 now. And 1.44 for 4.8. At a certain point which varies for every CPU, the amount of power it'll require to get it to eat each additional notch of 100Mhz gets more and more and more. You have found the limit of your 'sweet spot'.

I've tried messing around with the voltage, I had it all the way to 1.42 just trying to get it to 4.7 and that just didn't seem right so I gave up at that point.

My LLC is set to "ultra high" and I haven't really messed around with the IO/SO settings, guess I'll start there!

Try enabling PLL override voltage and see if that helps. With some chips it needs enabled a bit lower.

Enabling the PLL seems to be doing the trick! Still running strong with max temps hitting 73c for the moment, thanks a lot!

I hope to hit 5.0 someday, so whats the max vcore and temp for the 2600k? I haven't seen any official numbers, but I heard around 1.52 and max temps of 85c would be expected and normal with that high of an overclock.

You really need to be changing one thing at a time so you know what change made the difference. Now you could be using more voltage than needed.

For most, 5ghz isnt a 24/7 clockspeed. I wouldnt go over 1.45v for 24/7 operation.

I went back to where I stable before and enabled just the PLL as you suggested and that was definitely where I had it wrong before. I'm 20 minutes into my stress test right now with 1.375 vcore at 4.9GHz and still going.

Also, this won't be a 24/7 overclock. I never run my computer overnight and during my longer school days it is off almost till 7 or 8 that night so a steady 5.0GHz is still what I'm aiming for.
