No, that pricing is overly optimistic. I posted about an update to one of these news articles that gave more clarity to the situation. Price cuts on X2 CPUs will be in the range of 30-40%, which means we'll be looking at $182 or more for an X2 3800+. Still a great deal, though. So much so that I've decided not to pull the trigger on this $270 Opty 165, and instead wait for the cheap X2! Although it hasn't been explicity stated that the cuts will apply to 939 CPUs.

They may have to go beyond 30%. Why they are waiting till Conroe release to drop prices is beyond me.

All the monarch codes that are listed for the Opteron 146 appear to be expired or invalid :-(

And there appears to be a lack of competitive pricing pressure in this arena (retail Opteron 146, Socket 939):
$ 226 Tank Guys
$ 223 Monarch
$ 223 Newegg

why they are waiting till conroe is to squeeze out as much money as possible
you can't trust this but somewhere i thought i heard the price cuts were going to be in the form of rebates to the retailer. i don't know exactly what that means but it sounds like amd would pay out for each chip sold in which case if a retailer could drop prices 100 and still be making as much as they were before plus steal all the business on the chip from people not dropping prices will force everyone to drop the prices
