So i just got my opteron 165 today... and i didt reset the bios before i installed it... but i did the "insert" thing... and it reverted it all back... cpu booted first time @ 265mhz fsb (2385mhz) @ "auto" voltage... (1.5v) which i thought was a bit high... lowered it back to 1.4v... now i keep getting "machine exception check" ... set the cpu bck to stock... and stock volts... and reset the bios... and it's still doing it...

"last known good config" doesnt work either... the comp booted once after MS installed a new cpu driver... but thats the last time it booted... i only had 30 or so mins to get it in before work... so...

stepping is a CCBBE 0615. i was under te impression that this was a good stepping... ???

might an OS reload be in order?

also... i figured since the comp booted at all.. and ive had no problems before this that it's the cpu. memory is fine... passes memtest @ setting ive set. system has been running flawlessly fr the last 4 months.

system is in sig.
only things no listed are...

Casetek 1018b atx case
psu is an Antec 550 truepower (with an additional 92mm thermal fan on the exhaust)

i did clear the bios... after it started giving that error.

the motherboard recognized the cpu as an Opteron 165 from boot. and the comp did boot a few times before it started diong this.

That's a bit strange. Your BIOS should not be auto setting the CPU core voltage to 1.5v.

You said that the motherboard did recognized the CPU model during boot. Are you running the latest BIOS? If not, I will update the BIOS as Console sugested.

BTW. You got a good stepping. Some people are hitting 3GHz on that stepping. I have a CCBBE 0616 and its running at 2.8GHz with default voltage. You should get a much better overclock than what you got.

reloaded windows... and left the comp with the bios in "reset" all day... came back and its been flawless so far...

2.35ghz @ 1.38v (still working)

although the voltage is still detecting wrong... i don't care enough... if after i get everything reinstalled again.. and all the rest of the hardware from this upgrade in, and there is a new bios... i'll do it... but i have a lan party on the 9th... and i work everyday till then... and am a long sleeper... so time is limited...

thanks for the help... done with this thread.
