the newer 165's wont need 1.475 to hit 2.6 usually. The 165 in my sig will get 2.6 w/stock volts and 2.7 w/1.40V. These CCBBE 0615/0610 chips seem to hit 2.7-2.8 w/stock volts, which is pretty darn nice.

What FPS though? I never want an FPS below 60, EVER! Could have to do with my proc.

I don't run fraps so I can't tell you exactly. But for the most part I only see a little bog during the really extensive parts of the game.

Well I play a lot of big multipalyer games where there can be up to 20 people on my screen at any time so boging down is no good for me. I want some serious FPS outta this game. I play this game a lot, like hours and hours per week.

You don't need to run fraps. Open your console in game and type /cg_drawfps 1. Get back to me and let me know what you get. It will show the current FPS then a range 40-80. Let me know what seems to be an average of the two numbers. I will make a bet it is no where near 60 or above constantly.

Get the Opty 165. You will hit 2.6 GHz easy with 1.475 vcore on air cooling. You can hit 2.7 if you want to pump some more electricity into it. I wouldn't because it will get hotter.
From what I have been reading on the newer ones most people have been able to get at least 2.7 GHz on stock volts or maybe a slight bump to 1.4v.

I will try it, I remember most though not having any bog down during the D-Day mission (the only one I remember :p)

I dont think even 2x8800GTX's will guarantee that

I am pretty sure one will handle it. You forget, CoD2 is also on the 360... And I am POSITIVE it will run against a DX10 card no problem.

I know it can handle it hell my 6800G's run it just fine.Im just saying nothing can guarantee 60FPS without ever dropping below that

Checking Tom's Hardware VGA Charts an 8800GTX can get ~115FPS in OBLIVION which is a much more taxing game than CoD2... I am quite sure the 8800 can handle it.

Well the recent reviews @ the egg show the 165 hitting 2.7 pretty consistently some people get duds that only do 2.4 ish but there are also some that are hitting 2.9 to 3.0... So I think I made a pretty good decision for 155 bucks. Should be quite happy going from a 3500+ single core.

Doesn't anyone think the memory used factors in heavily right along with the stepping in being able to get a high O/C from an Opty 165?

For example, with memory that is NOT best suited for a 2.8+ O/C with a 165, wouldn't a 4400+ X2 be the one to get for a better chance of getting a 2.8+ O/C?

Running verto gamers memory on dfi my rescent newegg 165 is folding 24/7 at 2.8Ghz.:)

That's great! With the memory and board in my sig, would I have a better chance of hitting 2.8GHz with a NewEgg 165 or a 4000+ San Diego or ???

you've got a point, just as you need a board capable of high fsb's if you want to overclock a 165. for a lesser motherboard and ram, the X2 is the choice given its higher multiplier

yes, the memory plays a large role. A lot of the times you can get around that limitation by loosening the timings on the RAM, but it is always a good idea to get good quality ram to allow for tight timings at high mhz.

I have had my 4600+ at 2.85 benchable, but I'm running it at 2.7 and it's good enough. Don't think it's worth to go opty for me other that buying one as a spare as the S939 is to be phased out. Would I gain something with a 170 compared to what I have?

I get 40C on idle load and 54C when running 2x prime95.

Memory isn't important when getting the most speed out of the processor... divider... Of course if your memory will run faster then the system will be faster.

and when i said

I DONT THINK EVEN 2x8800GTX's WILL GUARANTEE THAT .Meaning 60 fps at all tiime's since fps tend to go up and down. And since Immortal_Hero said he didnt want his fps to drop below 60 fps ever

Now i have to reinstall COD 2 and see what my 2X6800GSs can handle at 1280x1024 with everything on high and aa/af settings cranked up to see what my fps will be. Normally I run games at 1024x768 and everything turned up.Since my monitor sucks
