Doesn't anyone think the memory used factors in heavily right along with the stepping in being able to get a high O/C from an Opty 165?
Not really. In the old FSB days maybe but the A64s don't work that way. There is a slight advantage to running 1:1 memory but I_H is right - using a lesser divider won't hurt the CPU OC.

Would I gain something with a 170 compared to what I have?
IF you find a 170 that OCs @ 2.8 you might get a tiny bit of gain b/c the 170 has a 2x 1Mb L2 instead of the 2x 512 Kb of the 4600 but the gain would be very program specific - IMO, not worth it ...

I didn't read this thread, but I hit my board's limit with my oldish 165. I need a modded BIOS to push it further, but I'm actually content with how fast my system is right now.

I DONT THINK EVEN 2x8800GTX's WILL GUARANTEE THAT .Meaning 60 fps at all tiime's since fps tend to go up and down. And since Immortal_Hero said he didnt want his fps to drop below 60 fps ever
If they won't do that with a DX9 game then they would be real close. I don't feel that there is anyway they couldn't do that if they had a quality proc to back em up.

Now i have to reinstall COD 2 and see what my 2X6800GSs can handle at 1280x1024 with everything on high and aa/af settings cranked up to see what my fps will be. Normally I run games at 1024x768 and everything turned up.Since my monitor sucks

I get 40 heavy areas - 60 in closed quarters/minimal stuff going on with 1280 x 1024 with 4x AA, Anti Stropic Filtering, and all texures on EXTRA. This is all with my 7900GT at speeds in sig. This is with my 170 @ 2.0 too. With it at 2.6-2.8 I would probably see another 10-20 FPS out of it since I am going to be bottle necked by this CPU IMHO.

And if TWO 8800GTX can't "handle" 60 constant with 4X (or more) the power of the 7900GT, then the 8800GTX are a lot weaker then I could ever imagine.

That sounds about right. My CPU was holding me back big time. I get 15 to 20 FPS more with my Opty 165 now.

they handle it for sure 2x8800GTX's.But i would have thought FPS would have been higher. But I still think there will be drops below 60FPS at times.Thats all im really saying.I n=know they are awesome cards and as drivers get better look out this thing will destroy game fps barrier's never seen before..lol

RAM weakness can be surpassed with the use of RAM dividers, i run at stock ram speeds while hitting 2.7 on my 165 with a 166 divider
