I have always used Orbs - mainly because I use a sloket adapter and I can't afford to lose a memory slot.

My Golden Orb ran my [email protected]/1.8v for a year or so, then I upgraded to a [email protected]/1.8v and got a Mini Copper Orb for it. Both work great, and I've never damaged a CPU with one (and 100's of 1000's of other people haven't, either).

I did try getting more out of my C850 at one point by trying out a FOP38, but the bottom wasn't nearly as flat as my GORB, and it actually performed worse. So I stuck with my trusty Orb.

Ooooops - this was supposed to be a reply under "SuperORBS BAD!!!", not a new topic.

Sorry, I clicked the wrong button - But that's what happens when you're trying to do this from work without anyone seeing :).

I have chipped a slot 600, but i still use my GORB on my new tbird 750, and it works great-not a high end chip and its running default speeds, but its still enough to cool a tibird [email protected] -cause the guy si got it from had that setup -the colplate and the GORB are properly lapped using crap thermal grease but it does the job

Some have luck with the Orbs, some haven't. For the price, I think they are ok, and most of them can handle moderate overclocking.

However, a Gorb cooled my [email protected] to about 32c heavy load. The Pep66 cools the same cpu @1050 to 30c running folding.

Go figure.

the orbs aren't bad, especially for older cpus that produce less heat. But with the newer ones, they are starting to show their age. But like Allen said, they have a great price/performance ratio. Although I think the Fop32-1 is still the best price performance wise, the orbs aren't horrible. A lot of the cracked cpus with orbs come from people using the wrong orb on the wrong socket, DOH!!!!.
