I am trying to OC my duron to anyting "higher" than 800MHZ, however, it does not even get to the bios screen. I have a chrome orb. My voltage at 800MHZ is 1.65. Does this mean my cpu is limited at 800MHZ?

Not necessarily, have you tried throwing more voltage at the chip? It should be safe to run it a little higher, just keep an eye on your temps, and remember you are shortening the life, so I'm not making any garuntees. I assume your using only the multiplier to overclock? FSB can lead to problems with the A7V.

I am using the multipier, and everything by jumpers. Bus 100MHZ. I raised the voltage to 1.725, still no boot on 850/900. And for some reason my computer crashed running 1.725 voltage at 800mhz. On my previous duron, i was able to run default 650MHZ at 1.85 volts without a problem.

What heat sink are you using? And what are your temperatures? Sounds like you might be running too hot with the added voltage.

The Chrome Orb by thermaltake; with heat sink compound. Temp averages 45 for CPU/ 32 for MoBo. My sensor is between the the cpu corner and heatsink. Its not taped, so the actual temp may be higher.

That could be a little too warm, if your using alot of heat sink paste id wipe some off, it should be a really thin layer. Also check the flatness of the seating between the heatsink and the cpu, it might be tilted to one side.

I am pretty sure its flush, becaues the heat sink gets warm. How do you suggest i make sure its flush? thanks for your input.

My A7V with Duron 600 gets 950 at 1.75V using a Chrome Orb. However, my T-bird 700 only gets 850 in same mobo with same heat sink.
Although I would have thought that the 650 would be capable of more than that, sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't. It's the name of the game.

The only suggestion I have is that if you used the "pencil trick" try using something more permanant for the bridges. Other than that, I wish you the best of luck.
Sorry couldn't be more help...

more fans more volts more mhz! faster faster faster! ;D First thing you gotta go is look into some beter cooling, that may be a few case fans, may be a whole new hsf. The Alpha PEP66 works great, and so does the PAL 6035, the PAL is actualy a little beter, but its as loud as a blow dryer so whetehr u wanna put up with that or not is up to you. The alpha PEP66 should be sufecient with some case fans. As for the voltage mod, look it up at tomshardware.com , Im not sure on how to do it on the K7V, But here is the link to do it on the KT7. . . http://www.amdzone.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=368 Once you up the volts, you should be able to bump up the mhz a bit. And I think its a good idea to use the FSB a little, but dont just relay on the FSB. Try bumping up the FSB up a little, and maybe lower down the multiplyer a bit. Dont get to crazy with the FSB, becuase that effects your entire mobo. Good luck!! ;D
