Hi, I'm looking to overclock the Athlon II X4 @ 2.8ghz, possibly without adding any more cooling; just the stock heatsink and fan, up to what maybe 3.2, is that realistic? Iv'e spent really the whole day so far researching, I've backed up data got targets in mind inc temperatures as well as fps in games and three programes for temperatures, stress testing and cpu details but could you answer a few questions before I start the proccess in bios please?

Firstly, I assume it'll void the warranty? What do you actually think I can push this thing to? And how much more clock speed if I were to upgrade the cooling system, could you briefly suggest how I would go about this. Also, what is the proccesser's specific temperature ranges? I've seen general ones, but what do you, for this particular CPU, suggest?

And, ideally I would want many more hz if possible but I'm not so sure about investing in a new cpu. I primarily run FSX and would like around 3.6 - 3.8 for this but obviously not with this cpu... unless I upgrade the cooling of course, or not even? So could tou suggest a card to buy to replace it, ideally shipping towards 3.4 and with potential to push up by .4, of course if it supports OCing. I don't mind dropping from 4 cores to two even as long as higher CS. But basically, what would be my best bet, considering value if my current processer wouldn't go very higher than it currently is? Motherboard is ECS elitegroup GeForce 6100PM-M2 so would need to be either Athlon, Phenom or Sempron right? Fair bit experience opening up PC case and how hardware works i've installed new RAM and Hard drive space before.

Many Thanks!

Possibly, if it will be stable without having to bump up the CPU voltage. You can only know by experimentation. Stress testing while monitoring temps after increasing the fsb to give you the desired CPU speed. The stock cooler is very limiting. Firstly, I assume it'll void the warranty? Technically, yes, but that depends on you volunteering the information or being honest that you did overclock it if asked. What do you actually think I can push this thing to? I have that same CPU. With good air cooling and a supporting cast of other hardware components that are or reasonable quality, maybe 3.5-3.6 ghz. And how much more clock speed if I were to upgrade the cooling system, could you briefly suggest how I would go about this. Also, what is the proccesser's specific temperature ranges? When overclocking you want to keep the core temps from exceeding 55 C. and the CPU temps from exceeding 65 C. I've seen general ones, but what do you, for this particular CPU, suggest?

You need to confine yourself to a CPU that does not exceed 95 watt TDP in order to use that motherboard at all. I'm sorry but I don't hold out much hope for you being able to overclock much at all with that motherboard. ECS is absolutely the bottom feeder when it comes to overclocking and the board you have chosen is limited to 95W TDP. The Athlon X4 630 starts at 95W in stock form and if you overclock it you will create an even bigger watt draw. Your only hope would be the Sempron nad even then I doubt you have many overclocking options in bios.
