Hello, I am new to the overclocking community. I will start by sharing my rig with you guys.

Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz
GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R-SLI LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Motherboard
OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Voltage Desktop Memory Model
EVGA GeForce GTX 285 SC Edition 1GB 512-bit GDDR3
XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler
Windows Vista home premium 64bit

I have already overclocked my cpu to 3400.0MHz about a week ago.

Everything has been running fine and I ran a standard Intel Burn Test which finished well.
I also ran a Prime95 test for about 1.5 hrs with no problem.


However this morning I ran a Intel Burn Test on maximum and i blue screened. I also ran a Prime95 test and it gives me:
FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 1, expected less then 0.4
hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.
torture test ran 0 minutes - 1 errors, 0 warnings.
worker stopped.

When idle or surfing the web my cpu runs at 40-43C.

What board do you have, what are the rated DRAM timings and voltage at DDR3-1600 (I assume 8-8-8-24 at 1.65V), and what are the current DRAM frequency, timings, and voltage? Also what's the current BCLK and multiplier?
 
the multiplier is 20
the BCLK is 170
my DRAM Voltage only goes up in .02 increments so it is set to 1.640V atm.

I think my biggest problem is I don't fully understand what voltage does what.

I am also unfamiliar with what ram timings do exactly.

Your QPI link speed multiplier should be set to 1/2 what your System Memory multiplier so at your current qpi number your Memory should be set to 18.
The first thing I did to overclock my 920 was to set my link speed to 16 which then my memory multiplier was set to 8. I have a suspicion that your getting unstable due to you qpi speed. just an idea should try it out.
 
Yeh I learned alot during the past day.

I also have the feeling that alot of the trouble in the beginning was due to my QPI link speed. I messed around with alot of voltages, currently I'm stuck on getting a stable OC at 191 bclk with turbo on.

Once I try going to 1.3 on the QPI/VTT it wont even post even with a lower bclk so I left that at 1.28 and have been messing with the QPI PLL. Once I upped the QPI PLL I was getting stable OC at 180 bclk with turbo on so I'm messing with that.

Right now my cpu Vcore is at 1.425 :( I' m trying to get a stable 24/7 4.0Ghz OC. So i'd rather not up my vcore even higher :(.
 
I understand that the C0/C1 920 do take more volts to get them stable but I run my I7-920 D0 @3.8g with 20x [email protected] this is rock stable for me my qpi is at 16 and my memory is at 8. I run my ram down clocked to 1520 instead of the rated 1600 but I find that for what I do I do not notice the difference.

I would turn turbo off and all other boost programs and try on 20x with a 170 and up your voltage twice from stock. if its stable go up 10 and see if that's stable if not adjust your volts up one notch and just keep climbing, no reason not to be able to run @200x20 to give you a nice 4.0g on that CPU, just watch your ram as well you might need to boost the volts on them due to their clock speeds.
