Hey,
I'm a newbie to OCing, especially Intels. I have a 733 on a Abit BE6-2 MoBo. I am trying to start OCing it. Default was 733(5.5x133). I changed it to 800(6x133). It worked OK, but when it booted up it said 733. I checked BIOS and it said 800. I rechecked it, same thing. Is it pushing 800 or did it not stick? Am I doing something wrong or forgeting something? Thanks for the help!

The cpu mulitplier is locked. You can set it in the bios to a different setting but it will not reall do anything.
You need to change the cpu frequency to overclock.
Change the 133mhz setting to the next higher setting.

I changed it to 135. I kept the multiplier at x6 and it booted up with 743. I changed the multiplier to x7.5 and it still booted up 743. What do ya think?

I think you need to leave the multiplyier alone and focus on the FSB..

unless there is something that attracts you to the multiplyier, then you keep that to yourself..lol....but seriously the multiplyier cant be changed on a intel chip.

So, what were your temps on your overclock?
At this point you should start slowly upping the FSB watching for lockups and raising the voltage to compensate...My rule on the voltage is no more than .3 over stock.

The other guys are rite

also watch your temps proper cooling is very important for 2 reasons 1 you will fry your CPU if not careful and 2 the cooler your pc is the higher you will be able to overclock it. your best bet is to read through the tips section and get all the knowledge you can a simple overclock is easy but getting the most out of your pc is an art.

goodluck

Hey,
I put the multiplier back to where it was. Then I put the FSB up to 145. Now it finally boots up to 803! Woo-Hoo! I didn't know Intels have the multiplier locked. Thanks for the help! Now it's time to go play Tribes & Unreal!!!

i dont think o/c at 135 would be good
1) you dont understand the difference .. to understand it you must go it up to 150 fsb ..
2)if something goes wrong and your pc is damaged (bad chipset for instance) tou wont have the chance to change it ..

as friend placid said multiplier is locked.. to unlock it you must remove some pins but it is dangerous .. it's the best way then .. like having a PIII 1 GHz .. and not the danger of dead cpu .. raise the FSB to 155 FSB.. with my PIII 800 at 155 fsb (@930) it needs 1,75V to complete 3d mark) .. i dont now for your cpu, but with normal cooling, im sure you will need it .. bye!
