I have a soyo 6ba+III m/b slot 1

celeron 466@507
160mb of pc100 sdram
fsb supported from 66-133

I just got a p3 866. When I put it on a slot 1 adapter and boot nothing happens.Just black screen.What are the requirements for a p3 866?What should I do?

Try clearing the CMOS.
Check that any necessary jumper settings are correct.

If all else fails, put the celly back in and flash the BIOS to a newer version.

Can I run a p3 866 on a slot 1 adapter and with pc100 memory?

You will have to explicitly set it in the BIOS, but I think you are a lot better off with PC133 RAM.

Slower RAM will cause bottlenecks.

For more specific help on Intel CPUs and mobos check out the Intel CPU and Mobo forums. I am an AMD person, I'm not too good with Intel stuff but I'll try :D

How can I tell if my m/b supports pc133 or not?

Check your board manual or the website for your board. Even if the board does not support PC133 RAM, PC133 RAM will run fine at PC100 speed. Its backwards compatible.

PC133 RAM will run fine in most boards, even if it 'pretends' to be PC66 or PC100.

I tried clearing the cmos and still nothing. How do I set up my ram in my bios to be able to use the pc100?

You need to be able to boot into the BIOS. Stick your celly back in, go into the BIOS and:

- Set RAM to PC100/100MHz/10ns (I think its 10ns). It depends on the BIOS what the options are
- Set FSB to 133MHz. This may also be termed 'bus speed' or 'bus frequency'.

Save changes, turn of the computer. Insert P3/866 and boot her up. Pray.

Setting the fsb I got. But when I go to change the ram settings all that I see for the memory is DRam Data Integrity Mode and I can change it from non-ECC which is what it was on and the other option was ECC. Don't know if that has anything to do with it but what should I do now? By the way I have a Soyo 6BA+III

ECC is a special type of RAM that has Error Checking and Correction capabilities. It has nothing to do with speed. If you dont have ECC then it wont let you choose ECC.

I have found out why my p3 will not work but I also just go a 30gb Quantum Fireball lct20 harddrive. My motherboard only supports Ultra DMA/33. My bios recongnizes the drive but after the bios there is just a black screen. Can't load from floppy or anything. Do the 30gb harddrives that are DMA/66 not run on my motherboard. What could be wrong here?

They should be backwards compatbile. Check the cable - I think you will need a newer cable for newer drives. I'm not sure.
