Is it true that the p4 2ghz processor isnt actually 2ghz i have heard that the only reason that pentium realised the 2ghz is because amd realised their 1.8 ghz athlon. Is this true?

If by the 1.8GHz Athlon you mean the 2200+, then I don't see how that's possible. They just announced the release of the XP 2200+ on the Palomino core recently and the 2GHz Willamette has been out for some time. The 2.0 and 2.2 Northwoods are newer chips but they still predate this announcement. As far as I know the release of the 2200+'s is only in Japan... no where else yet, and the T-Bred core isn't going to be out until May. I haven't seen any evidence in any benchies or reviews that Intel's 2GHz chips, Willamette and Northwood alike, are not actually running at 2GHz.

I think what he may be trying to say is the 2GHz P4 isn't as powerful as an athlon running at 2GHz.

Well, if that's the case...

It's an old argument brought up by many before. I don't think THAT debate needs to be conjured up again....
