P4 Psu

got a simple question, do the P4 mobo's actually need the 4pin 12v connector to work or not? if so can i just get the 12v from a power lead (say the cdrom or hd one) with grounds,like the one in the pic attached?

forgot to mention

the psu i'm using is a FSP/Sparkle 400 watt, it has the aux cable (the one like an AT connection) but is missing the 4pin 12v one

If you have a decent PSU you don't need the 4 pin connector at all. I tried My Asus P4S333-M with and without and it seems to make no difference. If you have a good PSU already give it a try before you pay for a new 4 pin PSU.
