The page file is currently on a 3.2 gig ATA 100 5400 rpm W/D.

It is the only item on this drive. The drive is compressed.

Would there be any benefit if it was not compressed?

It requires CPU power to compress and decompress the data. I'd say you'd get better performance with compression off, and WinXP doesn't take 3 gigs of pagefile (usually) - you can specify a max of about 1 gig.
