Pc 2100(266) + Pc 2700(333)

I am thinking of adding a Corsair PC 2700 512 DDR memory to my ASUS A7V8X mobo. Will there be a problem if I were to us my current Crucial PC 2100 256 DDR memory together with it since I want to set the memory frequency to 333mhz. And also, is it worth buying into the PC 3000 plus range. The VIA K400 has problems with DDR 400 or will this be fixed in up coming BIOS version.

You can run the two sticks both together, but it will default to the slower speed.. 133 mhz.

You can bump it up to 166 mhz, but make sure your pc2100 ram can handle that. If it can't, then the system won't run with both sticks at that speed.

I'm not sure about overclocking your crucial ram but if you put in pc2100 with pc2700 the corsair pc2700 will run at pc2100 I think.

So the question becomes which one is faster, better for me? 512 ddr333 or 768 ddr266. I would personally stick with 512 ddr333 cause most people don't need more then 512 megs of ram. Don't know how much faster ddr333 is to ddr266 but my system is more responsice with ddr333. But if the pc2100 can do 166mhz then you won't have to worry about that. Good luck

it would be worth buying into the 3000 plus range but not if your going to combine it with that crucial ram

ok look in bios for the memery ratio. is below the multiplier adjustments in my a7v333 leave the fsb@133 and selct 4:5 ratio on the memroy. dont use turbo just optimal settings. its right with these settings also.under system performance.

this will run the cpu at stock but oc the ram to 166. this will tell you mabey if it has a chance of running with the corsair. it is possable tho it might.my corsair runs 180 fsb 2100stick also.

if it passes u can tinker with it more when u get the corsair.

So is it really worth buying on the basis of performance DDR333 vs DDR266? Has anyone used a PC 2100 and switched to PC 2700. How's the peformance increased?

I don't think my crucial will work. Please forgive me if I am wrong. (newbie here).I did a benchmark test with PCMark 2002. The max FSB I got from the test before it crash was around 145 mhz. This is with a lock AMD 1900 + Chip.

And also the memory frequency doesn't allow me to go any higer that 266mhz.

Well if i am not mistaken i was able to up my FSB up to 150 using my KG7-R with 512DDR PC2100 Crucial. But the memory timing was 2.5 auto and i increase the voltage of the memory from default to 2.7. And it was stable. Hope this helps
