If the motherboard is pre USB 2.0 then it probably gets hung up trying to figure what it is.

The motherboard isn't just pre USB 2.0 it's pre USB.

And unfortunately, I do not have another PC even with a PCI slot to test :L

Is there another pci card? Try taking that out and putting your other one in... maybe its an irq conflict??
