I think I'm asking a question that has been asked a thousnad times before, but I looked on the main site and found only one article on it, and all it said was to basically get a new powersupply. Now, I know that you NEED a new PS to power the peltier, I was wondering if I could use one of the many old power supplies (AT) I have around to do this. I thought you might be able to modify the PS somehow and get enough current to power the peltier. I haven't bought one yet (a peltier) because I'm still trying to get my info straight on the subject. But when I get one, I'm getting a big one, like 200w or so.
If this can be done, or if anyone has done it, please let me know!
Thanks

I used an old AT for my pelts on a Cel366...got it to 550. The downside is, NOISE! ,there isn't a very sano way to mount one, unless you fab something to screw it to the inside of the case, and the "resistor" (i think it was actually a diode) location differs from PS to PS. I plan on powering my three 72W and one 156W pelt with a DLS-45 from Iota engineering. It is supposed to be used to charge batteries on RV's....14.8VDC/45A continuous. Note: when buying a PS, always check the duty cycle (continuous, half-time, etc), continuous is the only number that matters in this application. I got mine drop-shipped from the factory, but they screwed up and sent me a second one from the retailer...(shhhh). Thought about diode-ORing them for 100% redundancy. Hope that helps a little.

Here's what your looking for. Pay close attention to the power resistor on the 5 volt line, the ohms are not as particular as having the high wattage one is. My dually supply has 2 ohm 25 watt resistors, so they barely get warm as they have heatsinks for cases.

If you can't fit them inside a case, you can dress them up somewhat to make them far better looking than the psu case allows. Here's a pic of mine in a custom case of cast aluminum, but a project/electrical box would be comperable.

Have fun man!

Thanks Silver. Now I just wish my machinist/friend would finish my new waterblock and coldplate, so I finally use it for my pelts!
I have one of those car jumper/air compressor combo thingies that I charge with it so it doesn't go to waste hanging around.
:D

Got my cold plate in today. Am waiting on the pelt. Sent a note over to swift as two weeks is coming up. Site says one week before shipment. They send a note saying something to the effect that like the site said 1-2 weeks. Hmmmm, supposed to be reputable outfit so I'll hang and see.
