Phiber has unfortunately come upon some hardware problems and has asked that I post here for him.

One second we were talking, the next, his computer shut off. Each time he try's to start it back up, it'll shut back down on it's own in 2-3 seconds (I already thought of his power header being shorted--4 second shut down, so it's not that).

I had him prove it isn't the vidcard, sound card, HDD, CD-ROMs , or RAM by using spare parts. That leaves mobo and CPU.

Any ideas so far? He'll fill in more details when he gets a chance to.

Sounds like a faulty mobo. I never heard of a faulty chip. I only heard of chips running and chips died and not posting that's it to a chip.

The usual - check all connections. Especially fan headers. Looks to me like the CPU HSF isn't on properly and the mobo is shutting it off. Try a different HSF and/or fan header.

He's on his other computer.

I take it he has swapped all the parts from one computer to the other and still has the problem and his second system isn't a socket A system?
