I am building a little hot rod OC for my 10 year old son so we can play BF1942 together. I have a complete system running fine but Id like a new mobo as this 450 sits on a intel for gateway...any suggestions on what I should go with. I will be buying this obviously used from e-bay.Remember all im looking for is a new mobo to swap this cpu onto.

a new motherboard is not worth your money
as a P2 450 wont be playing any modern games at a decint framerate....

and the price of a Slot 1 Motherboard is Very high for what it can do....

Your best bet (on a budget) would be to buy a new motherboard and CPU.....

ECS K7S5A motherboard and a cheap athlon would be your best bet...

But if you insist on a new motherboard only.... try to get a BX chipset as that will be the fastest preformer

you can find abit bh6 and its descendents on ebay for under $20 usually

for something like$70 they have a 1.8 pentium and mb at frys.. if you have a frys nearby..

If you're going to get a cheap used mobo, then get one that will accept a Tualatin and upgrade to a 1.0A or 1.1A, then overclock it to 1.4 or 1.5 gig.

I have the rig in my sig running for awhile now and it is ok for now. But my suggestion would be to go for a AMD mobo and cpu because of future upgrade ability and price (not much more then putting a BX chipset computer together)

I agree with jAY. You will be better off getting a cheap AMD chip and getting a decent motherboard like the ECS K7S5A or maybe even an EPoX 8RDA. At most you will spend around $150 to $170 on this setup and will get much more performance than your P2 450. If you must stay with the P2 then a board with the 440BX chipset will be your best choice.
