Hi, I have a slot 1 Coppermine PIII on an Abit VA6 motherboard running at 675Mhz with 150 fsb. It's perfectly stable with standard cooling. I can't raise the fsb anymore, is the multiplier locked? If it is how do others get 800Mhz plus out of their 600s? What else can I do?

Could I buy one of those slocket things and put a higher speed socket 370 processor in? Ideally 1Ghz will keep me happy for a while until I ditch the lot and go for an Athlon XP...

Any suggestions are welcome,

Cheers

Steve

you have a 600eb. This has a 4.5 multiplier, which is locked. I have a 600e with a 6 multiplier, running at 155 fsb for 933mhz. Now you see which chip you should have bought :)

Yes,that's true

The coppermines with 100mhz fsb were excelent overclockers
It was the "E" series

500E,550E,600E,650,700E

yes it is multiplier locked for sure, since all intels are ('cept Engineering samples).

always (in case of CuMines) get the E series, i really recommend getting a 700E like mine, dead easy to hit 933 with 133 FSB, and 150 lets you hit 1050 mhz.

Cheers guys, I'll keep an eye out for second hand E chips, there are a few on ebay.

When I bought my PC 2.5yrs ago it was super powerful and I had no reason (or knowledge) to think about overclocking!

Another quick question, if I get one designed for the 100Mhz fsb and I bang it up to 133 or 150 will I start to need more fans and things?

Cheers,

Steve

SCG, actually the last time I looked ACMicro still had a few SL44Y Malays (retail), these are Slot 1 600Es. Take a look on the CPU Database to see how they did (some claim 170 FSB).

However, I think ACMicro knows its worth so it was pretty expensive, I think $147 or something. Now I know you can get a 1.8 gig Northwood for that, but you need a whole lot of other stuff like ram and motherboard.

I know they had this stepping since I called them, asked, and bought one (haven't tested it yet).
