nada, this benchy is specifically designed for p/// core. i know 4 a fact that an XP's multiple FPU's smack around a celly, somethings wrong here, and p4 at 2,8ghz should do much better than a selly at 1.6

Not always. It obviously does not here. The PIII was not even around when this was made. Have you even checked the link I gave to this benchie. It has been around since at least 1998.

Here are some more benchies.

cel-t @ 1.82GHz

I know for a fact the athlon will take the CPUmark and FPintens. The others may be close.

u tie me at 1.8ghz in cpumark, the only benchie i know of in that list. keep in mind im over 200mhz slower than u. and for how old that mandel thing is, that explains it. It isnt optomised at all for any type of athlon, the pentiums and k6'es were out. The p/// and celly are based on(actually consequent upgrades to the original) the pentium architecture. Athlon is quite different and when that bmark was made, it was not written for anything but a pentium( thats why p4's dont do good either, they are a drastic change from the original pentium architecture)

It's looking pretty biased relative to other benchmarks. I'd like to see it specifically compiled for a P4, Athlon, and then compare that to optimized code for a P3.

Hey there are the other benchies out there also. Why don't you try all of them. It is funny cause when they can not win the others they don't post them.

Here try this one. Run the exe and install passmark then run my cel-t 1.8GHz .pt file with yours. The FPU of the cel-t does beat the XP in some apps. So far you have tried what super PI which is highly FSB dependant and now mandel and you lose now you try cpu mark and win so lets try another. MM FPU in Sandra of the cel-t beats even the XP.

I don; tsee the 2.8GHz PIV smokin' my machine by much in this sandra benchie for Multimedia

Dude it was made with 3dnow in mind!

Mandel

Mandel is a program by Paul Hsieh that uses mandelbrot sets to benchmark the floating-point performance of an x86-based PC. It is highly optimized for each processor it runs on, and it is additionally optimized for 3DNow!. If you are interested in using Mandel to benchmark your own system, or would just like to get more information on it, click on the above link to go to Paul's Mandel home page.

I have seen other FPU testers and the cel-t wins also by a noticable gain.

How about some sandra simple CPU arithmetic benchies. The FPU there really does not win by much and hardly smacks around the cel-t. THe ALU is actually won by the cel-t.

I like mandel cause it is a more real world application by expanding a fractal which is nothing more than a mathmatical equation.

Do you guys really OC to run 4-year old benchmarks all day? I OC to get free performance in apps that I actually run. Maybe that's just me though, to each his own.

I think it took me about 3 mins to install and run that benchmark...why dont you give it a try

For ol'man

Why do i have that kind of difference in my bench?
The previus one i posted was 17888.
I didnt change anything....both benchies with the same pc
(2nd rig)

Isn't it funny how the second a P3 kicks arse on a benchmark everyone raves on about how the software was written to specifically 'support it' and not the newer processors (ie: AMD XP's)!

What you have to consider here is that 'everything' is written to support the P3 over 'many other' processors as it is not only a tried and proven platform (the P6 core) that everyone has been supporting 'for ever' but it is also the most used and accepted processor in both the home and, more importantly, commercial market out there....

This makes the P3 range of processors a fantastic choice for all users and is one of the reasons it 'still' manages to keep up with, and in many benchmarks, surpass the 'newer' processors....

What do you expect?! Technology is just changing too fast for the software developers to keep up....This is why I am so fond of the P6 archatecture and am gonna stick with it for as long as possable....:D

When Windows XP was released I remember reading an article on it on different platforms and the P3 platform was the one that benifited from the OS change the most....By quite a margin....

Is this a valid benchmark ?

Seems like the P3-S @ 1500 should get better....
Got OCZ ram running 3-2-2 5/7 @ 158.

Will run a test on the celly as soon as I put it back together.
(New Gf3 Ti450 got here 2 days ago, been swapping parts...)

You are correct. I spend too much time running benchmarks,
both old and new. But if I didnt have benchmarks and games,
I might have to do something productive.

Here is my pic for the 1.26 @1500:
