I am currently at 66mhz and I only have the choice of 60 or 66 , I was looking at SoftFSB and it seemed to work with my board, but I couldnt tell a difference, most likely it was doing nothing at all, I have this data on my Bios and chip.
BIOS Date: 03/03/98
BIOS Type: PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0 licensed to Intel
BIOS ID: 4A3NT0X0.11A.0006.P09.9803031401
Chipset: Intel Triton 430TX rev 1

My Motherboard is a PB790
p233mmx mhz
96mb ram
Voodoo3 3000 pci 166@190

Is there any way I can get SoftFSB to work with this, or any other way to increase the bus speed?

Anyone know of a FSB speed clocking program, so I can see if SoftFSB is actually working or not?

Would not my processor speed increase with the FSB ?

Hope ya'll can help!

WCPUID by H. Oda- the gentleman that wrote SoftFSB will show changes in clock speed. SoftFSB will only select FSB's that are available from the chipset. Your motherboard probably only has 60 and 66 available so it may not make a difference.

Acording to intel the chip is capible of 133mhz speeds, but my board only has jumpers for 60 and 66, so I am looking for a work around, or a new chip.

Thanks for the info, anyone else have some ideas?

I recently bought an powerleap adapter and will hopefully be able to crank this baby up to 700mhz with an o/ced chip.

My board can handle 133mhz (so I am told)
but as I said, there are no jumpers for this setting, so I need to find a way to work around it.

Thanks for any help, its good to know I can get more use outa this old girl, enough to get my by till the northwood comes out.

I've never seen a 233MMX that would handle an FSB over 75 very gracefully. 133FSB wasn't even around when that chip was designed. I have gotten them to run at 266MHz max. I'm not sure where you got the info, but I would be curious to see it.

The Phoenix bios has always been very limited in every instance I have seen.

I've read a couple reviews from Tomshardware that they managed to get the 430TX chip in 70-85 bus speeds (dont remember the exact numbers think it was 75-83 )

I am wondering if it is possible to replace the 430TX chip with a 440BX ?

Sounds like fun :)

Damn it SoftFSB doesnt make a difference, guess it wont work, I sure wish I could get ahold of the author and ask him to make Packard bell options, I mean come on, there are thousands of Packard Bells left over, even after PB shut down.

there are boards PB800, PB860, PB760, PB 790, ect ect ect like atleast 10 differnt mother boards, I know all us PB's would LOVE softfsb to work with our boards, hell I would even PAY for it.

And I wish I could read japanize, wonder where I can find a good web page translator?

would be kewl to replace this 430tx chip with a 440BX :p

I bet they could tell me how too, lol.

Unfortunately you have an old socket7 design and the 430tx chipset will only do 85mhz..but only if the board has the jumpers on it...and because u have a P233mmx it's also "clock locked" meaning that u can't change the multipliers either. I would look for a cheap BX board and an old PII or PIII or even a celeron...if you look hard enough, you can find a bx with the AT formfactor, and you won't have to buy a new case.
I have an old BX board AT style with a Celeron300a running @464mhz, and I think you could find a celery for $50.00 U.S., and pay about the same for the board. Mine is a Soyo SY6bb, and goes up to 133mhz fsb...I think, it's been a while since I ran it.
I might be talked out of it

Thanks alot for the Input, I really apreciate it.

As to update, my Pakard bell PB790 mobo is really just a striped down version of the Intel 4A3NT0X0.

And as far as the chip goes, it doesnt matter, I bought a powerleap adapter that will let me put up to a 400mzh celly in the thing, so that's probaly what I'll do, but I could get higher speeds if I could get my bus past 66mhz.

If you could tell me how todo this, I'd be very very very very very very very greatful.

And I do think I have just a few games hidden away in inventory that I might be able to send out :)

I have a 430fx chipset on my HP vectra vl. It has a 133 chip and jumpers on it. So far i have gotten it to 180 (60fsb 3.0 multiplier) and 66 won't boot. I am burning in right now with seti. 3.0 multiplier is the highest. Will softfsb work with this chipset? THIS IS THE 430FX not TX. It not softfsb is there anything that will work? I would like to get this chip or maybe a 200 to 250 +. THANX
