As you can see by my sig, I am running with a Swifty MC462A. I used Arctic Silver II and the case is running at a cool 22C. I am not currently overclocked and have had limited success at overclocking. The CPU runs at 48C with the fan dialed back and 46C with it running at full speed.

The T bird 1.33 will only tolerate about 1396. When I attempt to raise the FSB, I still can't get over the 1396 point. When I raise the CPU voltage, it craps out at anything over 1.8 volts.

Any ideas?

3 posibilityes.
1 you have too much paste on the die this will insulate the chip. I can almost read the info on myn through my ASII.
2 if that is the big 8 cm one (i cant remember which is which) then you may have too little mounting preshure. if it munts with a clip this is not the case.
3 Is it the corect way around this may sound daft but if its on bacwords the hs will not make a good contact and could corse damage as it will be at a slant. The hs is keyed to fit on a socket a so it has a ressed part to fit on to the bump.

Aftermath is right. Also, don't get too tight in the shorts about ASUS reported temperatures as they are infamous for reading higher than actual by as much as 10c.

I have the big 80 mm fan and the HS mounts using the standard springs that come with the Swifty mC462A. I tried to follow the recommended application method of the Arctic Silver II as posted by the manufacturer. I am sure that the HS is correctly installed.

I was assuming that my difficulty in overclocking was due to high CPU temps. I read on the forum that many people get temps in the low 40's or high 30's. I have never been able to attain that. I will try to reapply the AS II and try again.

Hoot...I was aware of the ASUS temp problem, but I can't attribute the lousy overclocking to anything else.

I have good airflow (round cables and very large open areas) in the case. I have 5 case fans not including the two in the PSU. The fans blow inward from the bottom front and outward at the rear top.

Do you see anything in my setup that could cause this difficulty?

A successful overclock is an equation of many variables. Some, more subtle than others. Troubleshooting a failure to overclock a given rig at a given speed is the admission price for overclocking. it's what makes the discipline challenging. It would not be half as fun if it were just plug-n-play and would cheapen the entire endeavor. Time to earn your wings.

Possible causes:
The personality of your specific CPU
The personality of your specific Motherboard
The personality of your specific Ram
The personality of your specific AGP & PCI bus cards
The temperature inside your system
The temperature of your CPU
The wattage capacity of your PSU
A combination of any of the above

Just because someone else gets a particular overclock is never a guarantee that you will be able to attain the same. There's just too many variables in the equation.
