Just a simple question. Some PSUs allow the user to adjust the pots, allowing for higher voltages. What is the purpose of it for? Usually, a PSU under load would have its output voltages falling below spec, but wouldn't boosting the voltage stress the PSU even further?

Just a guess on how it could be used, other than the purpose of forcing their plugged fans to spin faster...
 
It's so you can set the voltage to be 12v under load (or 5v, or whatever), rather then 12v at idle and 11.5v under load or something like that.
