Here's the system details

Amd Thunderbird (200fsb) 1.2ghz (watercooled)
Abit Kt7E motherboard (no raid)
320mb pc100 ram (works with intel motherboard)
3dfx V5 5500 AGP
300w Deer Powersupply ATX (powering mainboard only and V5)
250w AT PS (powering cdroms and harddrives)
3x Cdroms
2x 27gb 7200rpm drives
Sound Blaster Live value pci
Pci Winmodem (gay i know)
USB DirecPC satellite modem (very fast)
USB Digital Camera

Am I missing anything? Anyways, here's the problem, I get no video to the monitor or power to the board. When I plug in everything and push the switch to power on the ATX PS , everything revs up and powers (but no video to monitor), then after about 10 seconds or so, the ATX PS cuts off. I already have the AT power supplies going so they arent lagging behind.

Everything else works in my P3 650 system, so it cant be anything besides the CPU or Motherboard. I recently bought this 1.2ghz tbird. The Kt7e wasnt working from the start (died with a duron800), so i thought it was the chip.

I rehooked up my p3 system, and it works perfect (power s

The V5 sucks tons of power, did you plug in the external power supply for it? If all you have on that psu is a V5 and motherboard, power shouldn't be an issue. Are you sure your motherboard works after the demise of your duron? I really don't know what else it could be. Ideas anyone.

an ATX PSU is controlled off the MB. If the system is shut off from the PSU switch then turned on , it will start everything for 2 seconds then cut power to everything until the momentary switch on the front is pressed(nominal for a lot of ATX/MB setup). 10 seconds that you stated seem too long. Since you have two PSU, ATX and AT, is the front power switch controlling the AT or ATX? It should be only to the MB which controls the ATX PSU.

Do you have a fan with RPM monitoring on it plugged into header #1? If not, there is an option in the bios to turn off the fan protection. If it's enables and doesn't detect a fan, it will shut down after 10 seconds. Give it a shot and see.

The V5 shouldnt definately draw too much power. I have other power supplies to prevent that from happening , so that's out of the window.

The AT power supplies are on, those shouldnt affect it though, it just powers the drives and fans, seperate from the motherboard. I dont have anything connected to the fan headers. I cannot enter the bios or get anything to display on the screen. I have tried reseting the CMOS and holding Insert (resets custom cpu changes). Still nothing. I am confident that it can't be the chip cause , hell it's brand new.

If everything works with the P3 board, would you guess it's the motherboard? The duron 800 with this board messed up when I tried the pencil trick. It just wouldnt complete the boot. This leads me to presume that the board is fried, but the chips are still good, because the 1.2ghz works like the 800 did, but the 1.2 is new.

Any ideas?

First off, it's normal (At least to me) that when you turn the power to the power supply on, that the system turns on momentarily for like 2 secs, then shuts off. On both of my athlon systems, this happens. You then turn on the power to the system with the case (soft) switch.

Next, have you tried disconnecting everything and JUST having the video card, memory, chip, and keyboard? I mean don't even plug in the the floppy, case fans, hard drives, etc. Hell, you could even disconnect the video card and see if you get the proper error code from your mobo, a long beep followed by 3 short beeps. If you do that, and you get the no video card error code, your mobo is probably fine. You just have soo much sh*t hooked up, something is screwing it. You can then test out each item piece by piece to see if it works. Painful and slow, but its what you got to resort to sometimes. Good luck.

I have tried disconnecting everything, leaving out two of the ram sticks, and trying out each individual one. I have tried it with only the video card in.

When you say you get that often with athlons, it will turn on for two seconds then turn off? Why would it do that? I turn it on then it turns off, and if i try to turn it on again, nothing responds (doesnt turn back on). I have turn of the surge protector then flip back.

I believe you should try it with the hsf plugged into fan header #1 also. Some versions of the ABIT bios require a fan to boot initially. After you get into the bios setup you can probably disable this check (earlier versions didn't let you).

Good luck.

I think this might be your problem! I had the same problem with my motherboard as its an aolder athlon boad. I had to buy a PSU with no swithch on the back i bought mine at comp usa its an aopen psu for 60 bucks . go buy one and if it donst work return it. My computer never shuts off by itself now.

60 dollars for a power supply? Is it 500watts? You can buy a full tower case and 300w PS for less than that.

Why would the power supply be the problem? It works with my Be6-2?

Just plugging in a fan into the ATX fan header 1 did it? That fixed it?

I'll try that when I get back from work

er...i dunno if ive missed anything, but how about someone suggesting resetting the bios! ....you've probably done that though, so i wont be too patronising...!

When the power supply power switch is off, and I turn it on for the first time, my system turns on for about 2-3 secs, then shuts off. This does and has happened to all of the athlon systems I have used (3 of them). So to me that is normal. When i turn on the system, you have to use the soft switch, the one on the case, after the power supply power switch is in the on position.

I know this might be a little obvious, but do you have the case power switch cable correctly hooked into the motherboard? And lastly, does the power switch on your case even work? You might just want to try manually closing the circuit for the power switch on your motheboard to turn it on, see if that helps. Good luck.

On my case, the switch works. I have it where I connect the two wires. I dont use the push button switch. The power supply works with my P3 650, so it isnt that. The switch also turns it on. The connector for the motherboard and power on switch is correct (triple checked). I'm thinking just leaving this whole amd scene. I've had too many problems.
