I'm sorry but that is physically impossible. Only the FX 5800 Ultra can reach those speeds MHz wise.

MHz means alot less on the ATI boards due to there 8 pipe architecture which means they render twice the information over the nVidia VPUs with the same clock cycle.

More pipes also means more complexity and more heat which limits the R350 core from reaching 500MHz.

A good limit for the R350 core is somewhere between 430MHz~450MHz.

Sounds like........ you do not own a 9800Pro. I am already at 510.5 on core, but thnx for that input. ;)

Without artifacts? I would like to see some proof of this.. Lets see a 3Dmark 03 benches. The average I heard was 450MHz with some odd ballz hitting 475MHz~480MHz topping out... but that was after putting a big mofo heatsink and fan on.

Stock R350's have problems getting past 450MHz without going behond stock cooling.

Or better yet, at 510MHz, you should be hitting 20K with 3Dmark 01.

I have seen about half a dozen R300 cores (9500 / 9700 models) hit 500+ mhz on the core, and the 3DMark fillrate scores support the claimed overclock. The only problem was, the card was NOT as fast as you would think...

I actually find that, while my 3DMark fillrate benches go up, my total score goes down after I overclock past about 397mhz core on my R300 card. It's actually very likely that the uber-speeds are somehow causing the chip to generate CRC errors and force it to recompute pixels or entire operations. Hell, maybe it's a thermal clock-throttle device somewhat like Intel's heat protection.

Who knows. The fact is, I've seen a few R300 cores do it, so I'm sure a few of the R350 cores can do it too. That doesn't mean they perform best at that speed.

Also, the 9200 and 9600 overclock potential cannot be compared to the 9800, because they are built on a different CMOS process. The 9200 and 9600 models are built on a 0.13 micron process, whereas the 9800 is built on a 0.15 micron process.

Guess you missed the link in my sig.....Also, I am TEC/H2O cooled.

speaking of that link, u need to get rid of it.
The only links that you are allowed to have in your sigs are to the OC Folding team or to the OC SETI team, or the OC 3DMark Team. Those of you trading are also allowed to have a heatware link. Senior members are exempt from this rule. If you want to know how to become a senior member you can peruse the forum guide.

Absolutely nothing else is allowed. Period. If you feel that you have a link that should be allowed (would only qualify for overclockers benefit) PM an admin about it, and they will pass on acceptance or not. This does include text URLs of ANY kind...it doesn't necessarily have to be a hyperlink. It also includes your email address. If somebody else has something, let a mod know so that we can take care of it.

What are you using to overclock? rage3dtweak?

you can probably edit the ini file somehow to change the default speed, like with rivatuner. Anyone know how?

Look here:
http://www.overclockers.com/tips1010/

To quote from the page:

Step 1: Make sure Powerstrip is not running;

Step 2: Go into your Powerstrip folder and find the file called Pstrip.ini;

Step 3: Find the setting called DefaultClocks and change the numbers in the column to whatever settings you want to be as default. (i.e. 80043 = 80.043 MHz). There will be 2 numbers and the first one is usually core and the second memory. (eg. 300034,300034 = 300 MHz core and 300 MHz mem). If you have sync clock on, there will be only 1 number.

Btw, IMO 510mhz is really an awesome overclock, even for a 9800 pro! Congrats.

you can also do it with powerstrip on there should be a little button under the core bar doubleclick that and put in 200 instead of 133

Sweet! That did the trick.

There is a much easier way, for future usage. In the preferences menu, select rescan default speeds. 500 will be your default and you can get ANOTHER 25% out of it. Make sure you dont set it to start up with windows tho, helluva time if it freezes.

I tried to change the values in PS, but i keep getting an error in the sound tests now....maybe a fresh install of sound drivers... :confused:
