My problem is when i Try to connect my Dvd rom and my cdrw drive on the same IDE controller, It boots up the diagnostics screen and says detecting IDE drives....
then it says none, not my dvd rom, cdrw, or HARD DRIVE.
IF anyone can help please reply.
thanks,

Err I have no idea where this will be moved eventually but it will so keep your eye on it so it doesn't get lost!

So what your saying is before you install the DVD Drive, everything loads fine, CD-RW, and HDD's, but when you plug in the DVD Drive, it gives errors?

I might think that, your either not setting the jumpers on the DVD Drive right. Make sure your DVD Drive is set to slave, and its on the middle connector of the ATA/IDE cable. Another thing is checking the power, what kind of PSU do you have? Perhaps it maybe too weak. Check if the power plugs are in also, securely tight. It should be fairly easy to narrow down, unless something pops up.

yes it works fine till i put in the cdrw drive

I have the dvd rom on master, and the master(last) on the controller.. and the cdrw on slave on the slave controller (middle)
plugs are in good,
when i power it on, only the cdrw will actually have power, but i got a 400 watt psu... so i dont think that its too weak

Most IDE cables have the little nobs on them so it'll only plug in one way but if yours doesn't it could be possible that its plugged in the wrong direction. Also cheack and make sure all the pins on both drives are intact.

try switching where they are plugged into the mobo. Say your HD is in the first and drives are in the second. Switch them so the drives are in the first and the HS is in the second

you wouldn't happen to have a Lite-ON CD burner, do you? I recently purchased a 2 Lite-On 32123s drives. when they're on the same IDE channel as my creative DVD-ROM, neither drive is recognized.

I have given up trying to solve this problem. The problem exists on both a shuttle AK31a and an Asus A7v133. it exists with 2 different Lite-ON 32123s drives, and 2 different Creative DVD-Roms. One is 12X, the other is 16X.

The CD burners work well when they're on the same channel as a hard drive, just not my DVD. That was my solution. Hope it helps.
