Ok i thoght i had this fixed but apparently i do not :( I have two computers networked that are on a linksys router. I have file sharing on and everything works fine. Although when i play Warcraft 3 i can not invite the other computer to play a game with me! An error message comes up saying something about a firewall being on (ive turned off windows firewall and zonealarm still nothing) I got a tip from Tuk and he said to turn on IPX/SPX in my network places and i did. I installed the protocall and still nothing. Is this problem being caused my my Router? Do i need to configure my router somehow? Or is it a windows based Problem? Any help would be appreciated, im a big noob when it comes to networking thank god XP made it pretty easy :)

Your Router is a Router / Switch right ? If so everything should be working as long as the yare on the same workgroup "which they probably are", You should also have both computers to obtain an IP address automaticly from the router.

Thanks for the response, all that is a big Ten-4, man this thing is confusing me....

Ill take pics of everything to make this as painless as possible.

The error message im getting in Warcraft 3 is saying something about a firewall not being configured properly. I have NO firewalls enabled on eigther system not even the windows one.

ok, you see in the window where internet connection sharing is enabled  uncheck that, and you can also uncheck the QoS one too, it slows down you LAN. other than those, that all that i seen wrong, oh you can leave ICS on, but only if you have another computer plugged into the one thats plugged into the router, if its not liek that disable ICS.

Ok i went ahead and disabled internet connection sharing, and unchecked Qos.

My connection is DSL Modem Connected directly to Router then 4 computers connected to it and 2 of them (the two im trying to network) are connected to a hub thats plugged into the Uplink port in the router. hope thats not confusing.

You'd have to change your router settings. Find out what ports your game uses and use the port forwarding option to forward those ports to selected IPs.

The game uses ports anywere from 1024-49151.

Warcraft III:

* Allow port 6112 TCP out and allow established sessions in
* Allow port 6112 TCP in (hosting custom games)
* Allow port 6113-6119 TCP out and in (hosting custom games if you’ve changed the default port in the Options/Gameplay screen)
I took that from the blizzard site.

and this is a pic of my router settings

Now in the port i would select 6112~6112 and use TCP? Am i supposed to change the last part of the IP address? SOrry I am A COMPLETE network n00b :D

I want to get this fixed so me and my buddy can play without having to search for custom games.

Ok newest update, i tried opening up the ports 1024~49511, but my internet didnt work after  Sooo i read a little more and i set the ports to 6112~6118 (6112 is the default port for warcraft 3) my internet worked again but Warcraft still did not :( It did take longer to give me that message that i posted (the one that sais i have my firewall configured wrong) so i guess im on the right track but still no glory.

I found the "Port triggering" button and i was wondering i should put anything in there. Oh yeah do both computers have to be on the same port to play with eachother or different ports? Thanks for all the responses, im determined to fix this :D

On the linksys routers u could always set one comp as the "dmz host." It will allow all ports of one internal ip to be accessed, but will also leave that comp in front of the firewall(no protection) I used that to play aoc on my comp instead of forwarding ports. If u wanted to do two comps one would have to be dmz host and u could forward to the other.

Just tried it and nothing..... Could this be hardware related in some way? Maybe i dont have this set up right because this is not making sense. Ill take pics of my setup when i get home from school :)

Hmmm...sorry I wasn't able to come back to this last night...I've been very busy...
As far as your router goes...you shouldn't be having a hardware problem if you're getting on the Internet. Okay....so you tried forwarding ports 6112~6119, right? No go with that. Tried DMZ, no go with that...
Are your rigs set to get the IP address from DHCP server?
If so, then assign each computer an IP address. Go to your setup menu, I think it's in...look for the tab that lets you set the starting IP address and the number of clients.
Set the starting IP address to something like...192.168.1.130 with 10 clients (or more if you havemore than 10 rigs hooked up). Now you can assign your computers any unique IP address from 192.168.130~192.168.1.139. Normally your DHCP server within the router will do it, but it won't object to you manually setting them as long as they're all unique. To assign an IP address to a computer, just go into the network settings and manually enter the IP address. (Leave DHCP server on) Remember not to duplicate, remember which IPs are assigned to which rigs, and make sure that you don't connect until you have established them all...or turn off your router first. Try the port forwarding feature again and forward to the IP addresses of the rigs you want.
That's the best way to set up your network, IMO. If you don't want to go through this, you can just check your IP addresses on the DHCP client table to see which rigs have been assigned what IP. Then for the rigs you want the ports opened for, open the ports for thoseIP addresses. I believe that's what you were confused with earlier. Pick whichever one you want. Both should work...if not, then I'm stuck...

Nerdlogic i would like to have your 1st born child ( i mean this in no sexualish inuendoish way) I did what you recommended in the 2nd part after being to confused on the 1st lol. Im finally up and running and me and my buddy can make games in warcraft 3 beta instead of waiting for retards to make games. Nerdlogic, DDR-P3, and friends thank you sooo much for your help, many thanks :D:D;)

That's what the forums are for. :)
Comments like that make helping out on the forums that much more rewarding...(selfish of me, I know :D ...hehehe...there was a whole thing about selfless/selfish good deeds in the (former)debates forum)
I see you're in Orange County....think you can make it to an OC Cali Nerds get-together? It's under Cali Love in Gen Chat.

Cool. Have fun over there! The date is actually set for August 15~17. If you're here then, we'd love to have you. I'll put you down on the list as a maybe. Sound good?

Lord oh lord. Lemme make this easy. War3 doesn't work how everyone thinks it does. If you wanna host games on more than one machine on B.net ya gotta forward ports in groups and also use static IPs for each machine. I'll try and make this short adn simple. First off make sure each machine has it's own IP. Not one assigned by the routher(DHCP). If ya need to know how to do that either email me or PM me. Second, in the first box for the forwarding tab put something like Warcraft3. The ports 6110~6120. Check TCP and UDP and make sure enable is checked also. For your second machine, start at 6125 to 6135 and do the same as the first. The third machine would be 6140 to 6150 etc etc. Now under port triggering put in Warcraft3 or wat ever you put in the first space for the Forwarding. Make sure it is the same as what you put. For incoming adn outgoing make it the same ports you designated to forward. Thus for the first machine it'd be 6110~6120 incoing adn 6110~6120 outgoing. Alright so ya got yer port forwarding done. Now in War3 under the network setting or wat ever it is called make sure the first machine listens on port 6112, the second would be on 6127, the third would be 6142, etc etc. I think that's all that needs to be done. If there are any questions shoot me a PM or an email. Hope this helps.
