I've downloaded and installed the new full version of Mandrake 8.2, while it's fast and all, it's giving me major bugs. And this is suppose to be a final version... hmmm... Well, anyway, after I install it, my computer didn't have sound, because it found both my sound card on my motherboard, and my SB live, since I only want to use he SB live, I wanted to shut off the other sound device, but when I got into anything that will scan the hardware on the computer, like diskdrak, Linux will crash, and not work. have to then reboot. Does anyone know what's costing this problem and how I might be able to fix it? also, is there another way to turn off a sound device without going into anything that has to scan my computer's hardware that will cost the crash? This is weird problem, and I am very P_ssed. It's just weird how it crashes when i do a hardware scan program.

Is it possible to turn off the integrated sound card in the bios? If so, that may save you some of the trouble manually editing files. I think Mandrake supports soundconfig, but I am not sure, and it may not help anyway, but if you want to try, you just type soundconfig from a command prompt (you may have to change to another terminal ctl+alt+F1 while in X and alt+F7 to get back to X)

What exactly happens? Does the mouse freeze? Does linux reboot? More detail will make it easier for people to help.

Look in your BIOS (when the PC boots look for a 'press F2/del to enter setup/bios' message). The disable sound option will probably be in the Advanced Chipset Options or similar.

I dont know about mandrakes config tools, but is there an option to skip hardware detection? I'm not sure.

well, I got the sound to work again, but when ever I'm going into hardware scan in Linux, it'll get into this weird looking color or black and gray screen, and then I'll have to reboot. I'm dual booting with win xp, and I'm using a SB Live, V8200 Geforce 3, raid with 2 HD, a 20 and a 80. Winxp on the 20 and linux on the 80, but only 20 gig for linux, rest for windows stuff. The only problem I have now is that hardware thing. I guess I could work linux without it, but I would still like to figure it out so everything will be working right.

Oh and no, the mouse doesn't freeze, it just brings me to this weird looking odd screen where i can't do anything but move my mouse around the sereen.

So does anyone know the problem that's costing this and how to fix it?? Why does my Mandrake 8.2 crash when doing a hardware scan in Linux??
