problem with usb orinoco adapter and gateway

I was previously running Win98 SE on my computer, with a usb orinoco adapter and cable modem and this computer has a wireless network connected with a gateway. And then I upgraded to WinXP on the computer and installed all updated drivers for WinXP for the usb orinoco but the network isn't working and it's not communicating with the gateway.

What is wrong? What could be stopping this network when it was previously running fine with Win98?
