ok so i got a gigabyte ga60xet, installed it in my new inwin 300watt psu, everything fit great i set it all up. i turn the sucker on, nothing on the monitor, i took the vidcard out put it back in and realized it wasnt in all the way the first time. this time the monitor had a picture, but now i realize that while booting it just hangs at the initial screen. i pressed restart, and nothing comes up oin the screen again. the card is blown, i tried it in my old computer and sure enough its blown, i put an old card in there and my picture is back but the computer still hangs when booting, after another restart i look and no picture on monitor again, this video card dunt work either, and to top it off the computer still wont load past the first initial screen. so is it a trip to the repair shop for me?, or iis this a simple common problem when installing a new mobo?

after i hit delete it will show the flashing cursor in the upper left corner and hang there. if i dont try and enter the BIOS it continues on to the same thing, a flashing cursor and then hangs.

Unplug it from the wall and set jumper 18 to pins 1&2 for a couple mins then put it back to pins 2&3.
Make sure all the dip switches on SW1 (page 8 ) are set to auto and off.
Remove all cards but the video card.
Plug it back in and try to boot.

thanks, im gonna go try it right now.

so here i am many trials and tribulations later, no working computer except this pacbell pentium 1, 66mhz im on now and it sucks. umm i did what you said and i was somewhat happy, i got in the bios and it didnt hang. but something happened, i tried to exit the bios or something i cant really remember what happened but i know i had to reboot. anyways the picture never came back and the comp is looading but i get no pic on the monitor. i tried my nvidia, and a card from an older computer, the nvidia i get no picture with it ever, once in a while a pic will come up with the old card i tried and its a pci card.
im goin damn nuts, i spent 900 dollars upgrading to this gigabyte, a new psu, 512 crucial, 2 60 gig ibm hd, and a new inwin 7 bay and i cant get this crap to work. someone please tell me im just panicking and this problem is easy to fix!

also something a little amusing, I had to be rushed to the ER to get 7 stiches when i stuck my finger on the fan of a golden orb. sharp little devil, be careful!

Sounds like whatever managed to cause the video card to get blown in your 1st post must have also damaged the motherboard.
Time to test whoever you bought it froms customer service. Some places will do a hot swap where they send you the replacement part and have the old one picked up when the new part is delivered.

i dont think the video card is blown, i tried it again in an old pacbell and it works 100% and like i said ill get a picture but then when i reboot the puicture wont come back again until the next couple hours or the next morning usually. and even then only the pci card works and not the agp. the motherboard seems to be working fine, i just usually cant get a dmn picture on the monitor, but then again i guess maybe it is a problem with the board. godfodda: how do i reset the memory?

Have you tried when works to set it to boot from the backup bios?
At boot up you hit F1 or F2 depending on the bios version your board shipped with.
If that works do the same and in the bios managment have it copy the backup bios to the main.
Also double check all the jumpers and make sure they are set correctly as well as the power supply connector.

ok after i read some of these suggestions i went over the manual once again and checked all the jumpers, everything seemed to be set right, the psu was plugged in good, everything was all great. put my two sticks of ram in slots 3 and 4 like someone suggested. i started the computer up using the nvidia in the agp, nothing comes up, i put the old card i have in the pci, started it up, no picture once again. i figure the computer is trying to load off of the agp. I take the nvidia out and load up with just the pci video card in, nothing else. i get a picture it loaded up super fast, but i get a ram errore message saying to shut the power off immediately and put the ram back in slots 1 and 2. so i do, load it back up and no picture once again, and i havent got it working since and after many tries. the motherboard is obviously working. when i had it loading once with all the pci cards in, it detected the keyboard and mouse in the usb(not the onboard usb either). i can get in the bios when a picture is visible, the only thing is i cannot ever get a picture on the monitor.

When you put the board in you used six standoffs and then six screws thru the motherboard?
I ask this because if you have any extra standoffs under the board it will cause problems.
If thats all ok put 1 stick of memory in, cpu and video card.
Nothing else. Unplug the hard drive cables from the board and the floppy drive cable. Disconnect the mouse and keyboard.
Try powering it on then off and on if seems to work with this then add one thing at a time and make sure it works ok before adding something else.
If it does not work with the minimum stuff for the 1st try then take out the memory stick and try the other one.
If it still wont work pull the cpu out and check it for bent pins and put it back in and try again.
Always unplug the power cord or set the power supply on/off switch to off when working inside the case and turn the monitor off.

I dont quite know what standoffs are. once you tell me ill go ahead and try all that other stuff you suggested.

The small metal parts that you put in the holes where you are going to mount the motherboard.
They keep the motherboard raised off the metal part of the case so the bottom of the board wont touch the case and short.
Some cases come with plastic ones.

mine came with one of these only, not with the motherboard but with the inwin case i bought. And the case instructions didnt say to put them where motherboard mouting holes go but rather in this other hole near the com ports, the instruction sheet for the case listed it as a "ground copper screw"

So how is your motherboard held in place?
I am not familar with inwin cases.
There should be a gap between the bottom of the motherboard and the surface under it if that surface is metal.
I looked at www.in-win.com
If you have the IW -A500-atx
The standoffs would be the plastic pcb spacers part #14.

the inwin page must be screwed up or something, I tried to click on the little arrows under the products header but they arent clickable. the problem must be something basic i think, I mean sometimes ill have a picture and then I reboot and no more picture. but all seems to be workng when i do have the picture up there.
I was just reading a review of my particular case, Its the S500, the a500 redesigned with a little more room, a little taller, a little thinner and room for a slotket adapter. heres what the guy reviewing said about it:

"The
portion of the case where you would attach your motherboard has several raised areas. The specs say that this is for installation without stand-offs (the small nuts or plastic pieces that separate the motherboard from the case). Umm…. You better believe I'm using stand-offs! Let's just keep the case and motherboard separate shall we?" awaremag.com
