I just got a USb 2.0 enclosure for a laptop harddrive I had, a 10gig, now I put it in the enclosure plug it in, the new harddrive shows up in the storage manager as a 9.8 or something, so its the right drive, but when I try to initialize it it give me an error "an unexpected error has occured" I tried reopening the local drive manager, I tried it on a different computer, but I still get the same error, I checked the event log and it didn't tell me anything. I can post further details if needed, it shows it as a samsung 10gig so it must be connected.

Well one stop spamming the board and wait for someone... if not use the nice search button...thats what it is there for ..... come back if you cannot find anything

just trying to bump it, my question was moving onto page 2, and I don't think many people read posts not on the front. I've already tried searching and I've emailed the enclosure manufacturer and the Hard drive manufacturer but they havn't replied yet.

Can you check the drive for functionality in a laptop or with an adapter? If so, try booting to DOS and reading or FDISK/FORMAT to verify functionality.

Have you checked Device Manager for any errors? Also, check your event logs for other possible problems.

Were there drivers provided with the case? Some controllers use drivers other than those provided within Windows.

Under device manager it shows the hard drive and says the device is working properly. I tried the drivers that came with the enclosure and I get the same error. Under the event log for this i get "Unspecified error (80004005)." The source is LDM, under details it says the filename is dmaadmin now the only possible thing I can think is that the controller in the encosure is broken or screwed up somehow... RMA? still waiting for email from enclosure manufacturer.
