Ok so here's the specs first off

Some cheap ECS motherboard, p4/agp slot, it was like 40 bucks on newegg. Hes upgrading later. I found it at http://www.ecsusa.com/products/648fx.html

p4 2.26?B I think, it's a northwood 533mhz

256 ram, he's got another 128mb but I just want to use the new stick, to make sure a conflict doesn't happen until AFTER we have it working.

gf4 mmx440, my old gfx card until he buys his own.

So I finally found how to put the power switch thing for the case onto the mobo since it came with no instructions, helpful, and started it up. No video, after a bit I noticed the fan on the gfx card was not spinning, so I put my 9800 pro in it to make sure, that starts up and spins, and still, no video. The HD comes on, the cpu fan goes, I don't know what the problem could be. Basically every part except case/hd/PSU are from newegg, but I don't know what to even check now. Any and all help is appreciated, thanks

hook up a PC speaker. Then post back with the beep code that you will hopefully get. (E.G. 1 short-2 long, 1 short-3 long, 1 long)

since your 9800pro doesn't show anything either, i would blame the mobo for a faulty agp ... try to find a pci vid card and see if that will give you anything...

best of luck

Ok well I tested the gf4 in my computer, it works, I booted off it and saw picture. I am still getting NOTHING from this other computer though. Let me just type this to check myself

235 PSU
p4 2.4b
heatsink on it and fan plugged in
256 ram stick in
ecs mobo, http://www.ecsusa.com/products/648fx.html
the motherboard has that small 4 plug? connector in it, not sure what that is, and the main ATX power
the gf4 mmx440 card DOES work and doesn't need power, it's in a pci slot
the harddrive has a molex connected as does the cd rom drive, and they're both on seperate IDE cables. 0/1 respectively.

I don't get a beep code, when I hit the power button the sound is very very faint of the cpu fan. I can't really hear anything else in the comp. And that's about it =/ I'm gonna try random stuff, he's pretty ****ed about his comp still not working, we've been slowly ordering parts for 2 months now.

I'm a freaking moron..I took off the heatsink, I was in the process of reseating everything, and when I unlocked the cpu and touched it, it fell the SMALLLLLLEST amount, I mean so insanely small it's barely noticeable. But it caught my attention. So I took it completely, out, back in, put on the heatsink, and started up. It works. First time I've ever seated a processor wrong lol, it'll be on my checklist from now on.

Heh, glad to see you got the problem sorted, I've made some pretty silly mistakes before tho :)

that's one of the things i do when i can't figure something... rip everything apart... take the mobo out of the case, attach video card, put memory in, cpu, and try to boot...

anyways, glad to see you got it
