Forgive me if I posted in the wrong section.

I just received my Saphire 9600 XT OEM. I sucessfully installed it and fed it the latest drivers. When I tried to change the resolution from the default 640x480 the screen just went blank. I think it freezes because I'm unable to return to original settings thus have to restart. Upon restarting the box after it passes the boot screen the monitor goes blank.

I tried going in safe mode but when I entered there I recieved a message saying the Ati control panel was unable to start. The box also freezes when I try to go 'settings' under display properties. Previously I had nVidia GeForce MX. My mainboard is a shuttle spacewalker AK31 rev. 3.1 and running Windows XP Pro. Would anyone know whats going on??

thanks

have you installed the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard? If its a VIA chipset that could lead to getting a blank screen. You should uninstall the ATi drivers, install the chipset drivers and then reinstall the ATi drivers
what you really need is the AGP driver (which is in the chipset drivers for VIA and nVidia)

Yes, it is indeed VIA chipset (KT 266A). I went to viaarena.com and downloaded/installed the VIA Hyperion 4in1 drivers. However this did not seem to help much as the box continued to freeze and refuse to go to higher resolutions. I wanted more mileage outta this pc but I guess the time has come to build another one.

thanks for the help

As far as the 9600 problems, try putting your old MX back in and see if it still works. Also try loading up some other version of windows if you have one.

Or just reinstalling WinXP might magically cure the problem (I mean clean reinstall of windows)
