Hi,
i've some problems with ma abit kt7a-raid.
yesterday my pc freezes a few times in windows.
i always restarted the pc but the last time it doesn,t start anymore.
after the ide check after the cpu and memory check the system stops.
sometimes it boots till : "Disk Boot Failure Insert System Disk and Press a Key".
In my second pc the hdd works great
but other hdds also dont work in ma system.
My System is:
Abit KT7A Raid
Duron 800
256MB Infinion SD-RAM
IBM DTLA 327050 20,5GB 7200rpm
Asus V7700 Pure
...
What could this be?
Oh yes and i tried to flash the bios but after putting the start disk in to the 1.44" the pc also wrote: "Disk Boot Failure Insert System Disk and Press a Key".

thx for your answer
the bios settings are as they were after cmos clear and i only set the cpu to 800 (before it was 500).
the rest are the normal settings like they are after buying the board...

Hello Stryker. Don't apologize for your English, it's far better than my German! It sounds like your machine isn't finding an operating system. Normally I'd think this was because the drive had died. But you said that the drive works in your other machine. How about the cable? If it is bad, you'd see exactly the error you're seeing. And are you sure that the drive is getting power? You might have a bad Molex connector. As far as the BIOS flash goes, if you don't have it set to boot from the floppy in the BIOS, it will give you the same error, because it's trying to boot from the harddrive, and it isn't finding it.

Sonny, I think he means that he left the BIOS settings at default after clearing CMOS, except for the CPU, which he switched to 800 from 500. But I could be wrong. I can allways count on your having posted first when it comes to these boards. You da man when it comes to ABIT KT7A's!

may be
but i made a vcore mod:(
and two pins at the sockel are brocken
there is only one at one side,
has anybody an idea what it could be if it isnt the ide controller.
or has anybody an idea how i can flash the bios?

If you change your BIOS settings to boot from drive A, your flash disc should load. I'm really not sure what you mean about the Vmod, and broken pins. Is this something you did, and then you started having problems?

Oh. Sounds like you might be a candidate for a heatsink that uses the four holes surrounding the socket, if you get past this problem. Anyluck with the BIOS flash yet?

I ncase there is something basic that is going wrong, I'll go over the steps. First you need a bootable DOS floppy disc. If you don't have a machine running Win95 or 98, you can go to www.bootdisk.com and download the Dr.DOS bootdisc files. If you are using the latest Abit BIOS (kt77n), move that to the DOS floppy. If the machine is set to boot from the floppy, it should go straight to the A:. Then type in kt77n.exe. After the files have extracted, type runme.bat, and it should be off and running. I hope that does it for you!
Edit: I agree with Sonny, I don't know that it is the wisest thing you could do right now, but if you want to, that's how.
