Hope this isn't too foolish, but I've hit a wall, no ideas. Trying to learn and become more involved, but for all purposes, a newbie.....

Having problems with a Dragon+ system I just finished putting together, some old parts, some new (upgrading a step at a time)

Contains Dragon+, AMD 1700, 256mb Micron, Powercolor Sniper 2 w/ 32mb, running Win98. No others cards installed.

Got everything up and running, and seems to work fine most of the time, but every now and then, just reboots. No error messages, no warning. Thought maybe overheating, but system runs about 40deg Cel, never seen it above 45.

Could this be a problem with the power supply, bad, or just not enough? It's a 300w, guy at the shop said that would be enough to handle it.

Any ideas appreciated.

Make sure you install all the latest drivers for Windows and your hardware, in case it's a software problem.

If it still occurs, I suggest re-seating your hardware components like video card, RAM, PCI cards, etc., and checking the power and data cables for your hard drive.

It could be your power supply. The Dragon+ needs good stable juice because there are so many onboard peripherals. You should get your multimeter out and check your 5V and 12V lines.

Also, make sure that your BIOS is updated to the latest version (2BA2 now, I think).

Just an update on the problem I was having. After it started rebooting out of the blue, it ended up not booting at all. Wouldn't ever get past "Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer." Tried to format, and reinstall, but no go.

Think I finally got the problem solved, with MANYMANY thanks to Knack4it, who had a similar problem. Switched out the mem stick (traded a Micron for a Samsung, was that stupid?), and it booted fine, reinstalled fine, ran Memtest86, all tests good, no crashes, running well. Problems apparently caused by a bad or finicky mem stick.

So, kudos to Knack, and thanks to everyone else also. Being a newb, I've learned a lot in this forum. Hats off to all.
